Quote:
Fortunately, most symptomatic or large colloid cysts can now be safely removed through a minimally invasive endoscopic technique or brain port technique via a quarter-sized bony opening in the skull. This procedure typically resolves the hydrocephalus and associated symptoms.
These relatively uncommon benign cysts arise within the fluid filled regions of the brain, the ventricles. They typically occur at the junction between the lateral and third ventricles. The cyst consists of a thin lining surrounding a thick fluid-filled center. Once they reach a critical size, these cysts can block the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), increasing the pressure within the brain. Additionally, they can compress the nervous structures that process memory signals in the brain.

My goodness this is so scary. His poor family!! One of my good friends has had these cysts twice, one at 26 and one last year at 47. She had a seizure right in front of me and I called 911. They did surgery that night and removed the cyst and she was in an induced coma for three nights, but after that she was totally fine and is still doing great, back to normal. I have no idea how severe his situation is but I wish the same for him- positive vibes from Houston.

Around a year ago a 15 year old niece died of a ruptured cyst on her brain. Went to bed with a headache and was found dead around 3am. Mom went to check on her and found her unresponsive. Significant bleeding as well.

Ugh, thats so sad.
I remember reading a story a long time ago, I forget most of the details, but some guy was getting an MRI done on his shoulder, and the doctor just happened to notice a life threatening "thing" elsewhere in the picture. The guy basically randomly saved his own life by injuring his shoulder.
Sorry for the lack of details, but things like this make me wonder if in my lifetime we will ever have the ability to essentially scan the body like an MRI can as part of our yearly checkups. Perhaps prevent tragic stuff like this happening. Docs can get a pretty good picture with blood work etc, but how many of us have ticking time bombs in us?
Ugh so sad.
I don't mean to derail the discussion,
