I think Leah will be back in some form with the Calgary broadcasts. I hope it isn’t colour and maybe like her old role of a panel host for a after game show. She would be great with Krahn, Stajan, Lubo etc.

Leah has a pretty good gig with the Gov't of Manitoba, plus gets to so some Junior A PBP work, and does some radio work with CJOB in Winnipeg. I can't see her moving back out here full time unless it was a pretty solid broadcasting gig.

I really enjoyed Leah as a panel host but she definitely does not have a voice for play by play. We have been blessed for having Ball as our guy. As for Cassie she is a wonderful secondary color personality on Sports Net. I enjoy her insights of the game hockey. Hrudey and Ball make a great broadcast team. Just remember what we had with Kerr and Simmer. It is night and day.

Nothing will ever be worse than Rob Kerr and Charlie Simmer. Cassie isn’t very good but she beats either of those two by a mile.

I think the only duo in history I dislike more than Kerr/Simmer is Quinn/Remenda. Kevin Quinn is the all-time worst.

Women take centre stage in historic Flames broadcast on Sportsnet

Quote:
Seconds before a simultaneously teary and beaming Tara Slone threw to Cassie Campbell-Pascall and Leah Hextall in the Scotiabank Saddledome press box, the former Canadian women’s hockey captain gave Hextall a nod.

Then a fist bump.

Then Campbell-Pascall gave a fist bump to statistician Michelle Methot, floor manager Heather Weatherly, and audio technician Caroline Ferris.

“We finished the broadcast and I looked at Cassie and I just said, ‘I called an NHL game,’ Hextall said after the eventual 5-3 Golden Knights victory over the Flames. “The excitement finally hit me. You’re focused on so much the task at hand and just doing the job and not trying to think about anything else or any of the outside noise.

“But then when you complete it, and you’ve actually done it, and you’re actually only a handful of women that have ever done it, it sets in … for me, it’s been a long journey.”

Which — for women in broadcasting and women in general — can’t end here.

Not for Hextall, anyway.

“Now, I just want to do it again,” Hextall said with a chuckle. “That’s the biggest thing. You hope that … no, I don’t hope. I KNOW I did enough to get another opportunity. That’s how I feel about it — I put in the work to do it and I thought we had a strong cast.

“But it all comes back to Cassie for me…”
As per usual, don't read Sun comments.

I thought Leah was terrible to start but got better as the game went on. She stumbled on a lot of things and struggled to keep up with being a little over descriptive of the plays. I think the game was a little faster than she anticipated but she caught on. Overall not too bad.

I'm one that doesn't mind Campbell, she's not nearly as bad as some make her out to be she's not great either. I do feel she's improving and have no problem with her doing spot duty.

Ball and Hrudey are golden! Love those two as they both do an excellent job and have great chemistry to boot.

Given that it was her first NHL broadcast and on a national stage I thought Hextall did an excellent job. It would have been quite an accomplishment had she managed it mistake-free. The flaws in her call were all of the variety of inexperience and nerves, and I did not think reflected a shortage of talent or ability.

I hope she gets lots more opportunities, and soon.

.

I don't know if this will sound weird because I don't know her, I am not female and she's older than me, but I am proud of her!
