Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Worth mentioning, Mike Green waived his modified no-trade clause to accept a trade to the Oilers.

Hes also only doing it for a very short period of time.

Furthermore, the Oilers have a track record of throwing big money at players at arcs in their career where nobody sane would throw money at them.

See: Khabibulin, Kostinem, etc, ad nauseum.

Boy do I hope the Oilers sign Green to an extension. I don't really mind him as a player right now but I wouldn't necessarily want him in the future.

Is it though?.. I mean who would block an exit from a 31st placed team in a rebuild..

Unless of course it's to the Oilers, so yeah I guess the shock and awe of that is worth mentioning. You're right.

Accepted the Oilers because he’s UFA and all players get a bounce after leaving Edmonton.

I'm not worried, Green won't help them much.

Watch Oiler fans wet themselves over this fact as if it mean the tide has turned for the notion that the organizational reputation is no longer in the toilet (Hint:it still is).

He’s got as little in 7 weeks there and Katz will set him up in one of those unsold condos in the ice district he couldn’t schlep to some sucker investors, for that time.

I see why the no goods would do this, can somebody explain why the wings would do this? They are in a rebuild, but to give up an asset, retain salary and just get a draft pick and a guy who isn’t in the NHL... what???

Yzerman probably has a really good relationship with Ken Holland. I'm sure the cost would have been more for anybody else.

Uh, worst team in the league trading a UFA for a draft pick, pretty standard stuff

Its an average deal at best...Mike Green is not a very good player anymore

The Wings got a conditional 4th for a player who wasn't going to re-sign. The salary and player back just make the cap work for Edmonton. Seems like a good move to me unless there were better offers out there and this was a favour to Holland.

Decent depth pick up for the Oilers but of course their fans will hype Green up as a star offensive D man whose playoff experience will put them over the top.

It might have been the only offer on Green. Better to get something than nothing.

Not sure what Green has left in the tank as only the scouts have bothered to watch the Red Wings this year. His stat line isn't exactly encouraging.

It will be interesting to see what Green can do on a team that still has playoff hopes. Maybe he'll have a dead cat bounce.

Most teams who are buyers are so tight against the cap that they would have needed to retain a large percentage of his salary just to move him at all. That makes the salary retention a moot point.

Beyond that, it's an asset that would expire in about 6 weeks, so they got what they could for him.

Mike Green? Their PP is already doing well. You'd think they'd want someone dependable defensively and maybe a physical presence on that blueline.

I guess not.
