Sure seems like we have the Oilers number this year and that is a great thing. I expect this to be another hard fought game and think the Flames big boys rise to the occasion

They announced he was staying for it sometime last week. Don't know if Walkom is still in town tho.

Does it matter if Walkom is in town? So he can ensure his refs are game managing? Guy needs to be fired, like yesterday.

Surprised Rinaldo isn't in tonight.

Also, 4C Backlund?!? Crazy.

I am a little disappointed Rinaldo isn't playing. Also, equally disappointed with Lucic. He started off being awesome but now I can't even fully trust him to fight anyone or show his physical element if the game calls for it.

Hopefully, the Flames and Backlund decide its time to part ways and he is willing to move his NTC.

He really didn't take much of a hometown discount and he probably isn't too happy being taken off the second line and now being demoted to the fourth line.

With Ryan around, I really don't think Backlund or his cap hit is needed.

No Rinaldo, but it's about time for a Bennett beat down. He hasn't even fought this year. Although that could be because there aren't many takers anymore, especially in his weight class.

Backlund turns our 4th line into a 3B line just like that

A year ago, I'd have agreed. But this year? Backlund hasn't been very good, period. I'm not sure if he's lost a step or if he's just not quite as mentally engaged, but where you used to see him winning battles just to keep the puck in the offensive zone for another 20 seconds, now you see him only sort of semi-engaged. He's been a workhorse for the Flames, but this year he just looks flat, he's getting out worked, and for a guy who doesn't really bring serious sniping talent or gifted playmaking to the game, that's a major, major setback. It took me a long time to appreciate what he brought to the team, but this year, I'm not seeing the stuff he needs to bring every night to be important. They don't surround him with talent, but it's not like he's a beautiful finisher waiting for a setup man. He's a solid, gritty player and that's all. If you take some grit out... you aren't left with much.

I'd like to see him traded just so he could have a rejuvenating start somewhere. (Edit though in the playoffs, depth at center is likely crucial, so ...)

Not convinced that Backlund line is the 4th line. I think its the 3rd line, and Ryan's line is the 4th line.

I don’t really see any point in making a distinction between a 3rd line or a 4th line in this setup. It’s basically like having two 3rd lines.

I really liked Mangiapane-Backlund-Bennett the other night when they played together, getting another top 6 RWer would aide this team so much.

And yeah we do not really have a 3rd and 4th line especially considering the minutes they play.

Anywhoooooo go Flames go!!!!

I get it, I think what we're seeing is a determination to maintain more discipline. They killed a lot of penalties last game and I doubt they're anticipating more calls going their way against the League's golden boys.

As for Backlund at 4C, I wouldnt read too much into it.

Its sad that after this we won't see the Oilers for a good long time, its been fun to get my hockey hate back on, hello old friend its been too long.

In an effort though to lend flames to my hate of the Oilers I wandered over to that other board, the fortress of stupidity to look at their pre game thread, and instead of feeling the hate in my heart growing and bursting into flames (See what I did there?). Instead I found it sad and pathetic, a nursery rhyme filled with not but empty bluster, cries for the NHL to come down on the Flames, exclamations that there needs to be violence against Flames players.

Its actually become kind of pathetic. Thou I thought, thou could inflame things with some words, thus, instead I wished that someone would prescribe their whole fan base some kind of drug like xanax and years of therapy because they've become nothing but a pathetic example of a fanbase gone dumb.

So I wandered over to the Twitter, maybe there, I could find the hatred and competitive spirit that would make this rivalry what it once was. Instead I saw tweet after tweet bragging about their win against the Blues, and a few tweets crying about the knee on knee hit, and Tkachuk being a turtle still. I closed it down and sipped my coffee and realized, that a rival can't be good when one of the fanbases is stupid, and sad and soft. How would I inflame this rivalry without them, how would I get the hate in my heart without a fanbase that I can truly hate, instead of making constant fun of because of their pathetic, whiny and sad nature.

Then I realized I didn't need any help from them, I didn't need their stupidity to fill my heart with hate for the Oilers, for my heart is full.

But you can trust Lucic to make smart plays and move the puck pretty effectively. I do appreciate that he seldom ever makes a bad play.

Really hope the Gaudreau line has a big game today. I feel like they’ve done very little in this season series thus far
