Reminds me of how some people still defend Bill Cosby, and others can’t get around what he did. You will always have differing opinions on even the most tragic events or behaviours.

Bill Cosby was a serial rapist who sexually assaulted at least 60 women over 50 years. People can't see the difference here?

I agree, absolute garbage. But he has many supporters. Including celebrities. https://youtu.be/EpOo-DtgUjs
Watch this, and read the comment section. This is what I’m talking about.

I agree. My point was that people are defending the actions of rapists. Including Eddie

The incident happened so long ago I really cant remember details. What are the facts that make people certain he actually raped her?

Bryant was 24 when he was charged with one count of felony assault after the then-19-year-old woman told the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department about the June 30, 2003, incident in Bryant’s hotel room at the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colorado. Bryant was there to undergo knee surgery in nearby Vail.
Prosecutors in Eagle County dropped the criminal case on Sept. 1, 2004, after the accuser declined to testify. The woman filed a civil lawsuit in August 2004, and that case was settled out of court on March 2, 2005.
Bryant’s reputation took a massive hit after the accusation, but he rebuilt it over the next 16-plus years and was an advocate of women and women’s sports at the time of his death.

After the criminal case was dismissed, Bryant, a five-time NBA champion who will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame later this year, released a statement. It read:
“First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only imagine the pain she has had to endure.
“I also want to apologize to her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colorado. I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil case.
“Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.
“I issue this statement today fully aware that while one part of this ends today, another remains. I understand that the civil case against me will go forward. That part of this case will be decided by and between the parties directly involved in the incident and will no longer be a financial or emotional drain on the citizens of the state of Colorado.”

This is a fairly good reading of the case facts.
Basically fans and the media dragged the girl through the mud.
She had enough and would not testify.
Bryant settled a civil case for $2.5 million and issued an apology that was fairly close to an admission of guilt (It was ordered with the settlement).

There was a Calgary connection to the woman involved so it’s entirely possible a poster here would know her. QR77 did a story that there were PI’s investigating her in Calgary and I believe a writer from the Herald spoke with one or reported on it.
Personally I am bit uncomfortable simply calling him a rapist as if it is a confirmed fact. He was not found guilty by a court and maintained he believed it was consensual.

It doesn't matter what he allegedly did, 99.9% of people expressing remorse didn't know him. He could have been a giant dickhole for all we know.
That same 99.9% didn't give a crap about kobe bryant one month ago. But now it's cool to mourn so here we go.
Celebrity worship is a joke.

Exactly. I don't know enough about the whole thing to truly have an opinion but nothing I've seen or remember would make me say 100% he is a rapist. That's a strong allegation. Plus I imagine the actual situation was complicated. Could possibly be a situation where no woman has ever turned down his advances and this woman wanted no part of that but he didn't read the signals correct. Him apologizing doesn't sound like an omission of guilt but more just trying to say the right thing now that they are settling. I think intent obviously matters big time when calling someone a rapist.

That was my buddy who hooked up with her Outlaws. He was on the front cover of a magazine and ended up taking to Kobe’s lawyers.
