The Flames are still pretty good v. Minnesota. 7–3–1 since 2016.

With no practice today (I don't think?) I wonder if Ward keeps the lines how they ended against Chicago?

I would also start Rittich tonight and give Talbot the Oilers on Saturday. He deserves it.

well they dont play a speed game - more a puck possession/control game and Lucic is good along the boards grinding it out

Lucic creates so much space and time, it’s amazing how big he plays. He makes great passes still, just having no real luck shooting, it takes him too long to get shots off.

Yeah, he does almost everything well except for skating fast (though he's not usually out of position, hustles as much as he can and plays pretty smart so it's not a huge issue) and shooting into the net. He tends to just whack at the puck - all his goals aside from a wide open net are him just forcing the puck past a goalie. Based on the looks he's gotten, he could have had 5 more goals easily.

Great utilization of Calgary's centre depth.
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Lucic
Gaudreau - Monahan - Dubé
Mangiapane - Backlund - Bennett
Jankowski - Ryan - Rinaldo
Rieder, Quine, Czarnik,

This is the big surprise for me, Lucic's passing has been great (!)
Seems like he always makes a nice pass tape to tape while heading up the ice. I have been very pleasantly surprised by that.

Decent passer but he has some brick hands still. But ya, his style is oddly effective and that line isn't fast so I could see it work.

I would swap Bennett or Mangipane in place of Lucic who should not be anywhere near the top 6

Minnesota's last game was against Calgary, but our last game was against Chicago.
Weird schedule because they've had 4 days to prepare for the rematch, while we've been focused on another opponent in the interim.

I'd really like to see them just start this way:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Dube
Lucic - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Backlund - Ryan - Bennett
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Rotating forward
We keep reverting to the new defaults, and then we get down early, change the lines and then start battling back. It's almost as if Ward wants the team to be down early.

Maybe Bennett/Rinaldo will start to rub off on Jankowski. A surly Janko would be a far better player. Like Kylington over Stone. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dube moved onto the top 4 if Mangiapane isn't getting it done. But that third line has been effective so I'm not surprised they keep returning to it.
