I wouldn't read much into Bennett being scratched the last couple. It could very well be tweaking an injury or just under the weather. That tends to happen around this time of year. Plus he spent over 6 minutes shadowing McDavid, so chances are he has all the flu and viruses. It really is the only explanation after his game in edmonton. Besides, Bennett has exactly the type of game you want to play versus a divisional rival.

Ward is showing he's no better than Peters, these lines could be much better. It's good that they moved Lindholm to center but why Backlund isn't the 3rd line C is mind boggling.
...
Ward definitely needs to be more willing to mix up the lines, and try anything to get the top two lines to be much more productive.
I made a post in the PGT about how the Flames even strength goals for is what's killing the team, since special teams, and defense/goaltending is largely doing it's part. I didn't check where the Flames actually rank for 5 on 5 goals though. I just did, and the Flames are 30th, making them the 2nd worst team in the league, only bettering the bottom dwelling team Detroit Red Wings.
The Flames, one team aside, couldn't be any worse than they have been this season. Johnny Gaudreau and the rest of the big guns outside of Lindholm is really sinking this team with their awful performance even strength.
Location: F*** me. We're so f***ing good, you check the f***ing standings? Lets f***ing go! F***ing practice!

Shadowing McDavid lol.
More like with the Oilers having last change they kept lining McDavid up against the 4th line when they could.
Vs. the Oilers, Bennett didn't have a shot, point, or takeaway. One hit. Went 0/8 in the faceoff dot. Played 13:36.
Why people are shocked that Bennett is scratched is the real head scratcher.
Since he returned, he has played 5 games, 0 points is a -1 and has 3 shots.

Oilers suck.

Well Bennett is on Pace for 16 points over 82 games and Dube is on Pace to double that.
Reider has played 56 minutes short handed this season compared to Bennett's 3.
Jankowski your guess is as good as mine, but as bad as he's been this year he's still a better centre than Bennett.
So I'd say it's tangible on ice contributions that are seeing those players get minutes at Bennett's expense.
Right. With sample sizes this small, you have to take some cherry picked stats with grains of salt. You know the guy was hurt during the coaching change, when the team started playing well. Dube is on pace for Bennett’s usual production, never mind Bennett’s physical element.
Look at the Flames record with Bennett in and out of the lineup, and compare to the team’s records with Peters vs. Ward.
If I’m Bennett, and this is truly a healthy scratch, I may consider looking long and hard at a trade request. Best skater in the playoffs, when things matter, and never gotten a decent chunk of games top 6 after his rookie season

Well Flames had a 7 game winning streak without him, and before he got injured, Flames record wasn't all that great either. So I don't think that really proves the point that's he's beneficial to the Flames.
And while I question the continued use of Backlund in the top 6, Bennett hasn't really proved, or rather earned top 6 time himself either. Backlund at least has a history of being productive in a top 6 role over seasons. If Bennett is gonna get his shot, it's clear he's gonna have to earn it, and the coaching staff is not just going to give it to him.
If he is good enough to be a player that could stick in the top 6, then he should at least be productive in the bottom 6 role where he currently is presently. The idea is that the player bumped up to the top 6 would compliment, and make their linemates produce better, rather than those linemates having to uplift the player to finally make them productive.
As much as I would like to see Bennett get extended time with Johnny and Mony, he hasn't made a case for himself this season to get that chance. Bennett needs to make #### happen on his own to earn the promotion. Just like Mangiapane has. And for how long we've been saying this, and how many coaches he's had at this point, it's likely just not going to happen.

Look, man. “Just like Mangiapane has”.
The Mangiapane comparison is silly.
Mangiapane has 28 points in 93 career games. A lot of time with top 6 and even top 3 quality players.
Bennett had 37 points in his first 77 games. With a solid chunk of time on the second line.
You know what he “earned” for that?
A couple of seasons bottom 6 in the blender. Lots of deadbeats including AHL callups and fan favourite Troy Brouwer.
I know we are fresh off a good game, and I like Big Dog Manny. But outside of the 3 point game, his production hasn’t really been outstanding given his opportunity.
If I’m Bennett, I wonder why I am the top scoring guy in the playoffs and get 6 minutes on the top line.
Seriously. The kid has a career to consider, and millions of dollars at stake. Calgary doesn’t intend to give him a look. I’d consider whether it is worth getting my agent on the phone.

Maybe the Flames are just (allegedly) laughing at further trade offers for Bennett? They've decided to keep Bennett out of games so that he can get in on the jokes too?
I have to say, if the jokes are as funny as the idea Bennett was shadowing McDavid Guy Carbo-style, I'd be laughing too.

Honestly Bennett would be dumb not to request a trade at this point.

Well, I won’t make any claim on coach’s intentions, but as you chortle, answer this:
How much ice time did Bennett have against McDavid? (Himt: it has been posted here)
How successful was McDavid when Bennett was on the ice against him?
(Hint: when McDavid got his only point, on the ice were 11 13 23 24 55 33)
Nobody said Carbo-style. But there is no shame in those numbers.
Ward didn’t select the matchup. But it sure didn’t hurt them
It’s less to do with Bennett and more to do with who replaced him.
Jankowski is having an even more dismal season than Sam.
But janko kills penalties and whether or not you think he's effective in that role, the coaching staff clearly does not look to Bennett to kill penalties.
The canucks are a powerplay team, if you're going to game plan against them, the guy who doesn't kill penalties comes out of the lineup.
The Hawks aren't a powerplay team, so why Bennett is out apparently I don't know, but he doesnt move the needle, so I don't care.
We're talking about 4th line guys here, basically inconsequential.
Honestly Bennett would be dumb not to request a trade at this point.
Agreed.
Even Lindholm, when offered a chance to play C, has reportedly told the coaches he will play wherever they want, and asked the coaches, if it’s C, for at least a dozen games
That is a pretty reasonable ask, given what we have seen here, and a pretty damning indictment as well, of the general expectations that have been set around coaching here

What Bennett has done years ago is irrelevant to what he's doing currently. Right now Bennett is not producing in a bottom six role, so there's no guarantee that he would in a top 6 role either. There's been times he's been on the PP this season, and nothing amounted from it.
If Bennett wants to stick around in Calgary, and get a top 6 role where he can set himself up for a great contract next off season, it's within his control to start producing offensively. Each time he's on the ice, he has the opportunity make something happen. It's up to him to ultimately capitalize on it, and force the coaches hand to give him more playing time. I'm pretty sure the coach would be happy with any player that can get this team to score more goals during even strength since it's god awful.
