Forgot that he's on a two year one-way deal.

There's also the possibility he gets traded afterwards if he clears.

Rinaldo has three points in his last two games. I believe Czarnik has three points in his last three games.

I bet Czarnik gets claimed, which would suck but not the end of the world. Can't fit everyone in the lineup, and Bennett and Janko aren't going anywhere (barring a trade).

Czarnik being claimed would help the cap situation (marginally) and wouldn't hurt the despth at all. Mangiapane and Dube have both passed him, and Rieder and Rinaldo are both providing depth. So removing Czarnik would have no appreciable impact.

Claiming Czarnik would also free up #27.

There were at least 20 teams rumoured to be interested in him as a UFA when we scooped him.

Given the reported interest, I think he regrets signing with the Flames a bit because at the time Neal hadn't signed yet and I'm guessing he saw the huge hole on RW as an opportunity. The fact that he couldn't grab it even with Neal being garbage is mostly on him but I think there's probably some regret there too.

The theory, when he was with the Bruins, was that their depth was in his way, and based on AHL production he would pop if given an opportunity.
His production since would suggest that's not the case. And when he's not producing, he's not a particularly useful player in any other way.
So he's shaping up right now to be more of a tweener - a guy that could lead the AHL in scoring but never produces at the NHL.
I could seem him getting claimed though - it will all depend on pro scouting and another team wanting to give him a chance. With an expiring contract - there is very little downside. And he may pop elsewhere. Look at what Duclair is doing in Ottawa. On bad teams - someone has to score.

I hope he does find a spot elsewhere and carves out an NHL job for himself.

Byron 2.0, calling it now.

When he got the ice time, he produced. When he got quality line mates, he produced.

Someone with cap space is going to claim him.

Never liked his game. Always seemed way too comfortable and not able to make things happen on his own (unlike Byron). But I feel the same way about Jankowski.

That said, I'd be ecstatic if he became a regular player somewhere else. He's not climbing the depth chart here...

The Hawks are so lucky that Toews wore #19 instead of something like #41.

I think he clears. He is nothing like Byron IMO who was routinely used in important situations (4on4 OT for example).

Yeah, Byron made an impact even when he wasn't putting up points. He was on the PK and fore checked well. The only comparable is age, and stature.

No loss if he’s picked up.... just more crap thrown at the wall hoping something sticks... The Flames should probably eject a couple more and start giving some more young guys on the farm a look see.

I think Habs fans are trying to get rid of Byron
