This guy’s going to end up on an episode of ESPN 30 for 30 one day.

The NHL needs to know this.

I'd drive a custom made car, made out of all of the most expensive materials in the world.

No, it really doesn't. You might make the case the Sharks need to know, but even then.

Unless there is proof that any of the gambling being done is illegal or that he was betting on games he was playing in, the NHL has no business in someone's personal life.

I disagree.

If he owes other loansharks money, they could potentially force him to alter the outcomes of games so the loansharks can place big bets on those games and win.

That is a massive problem for the NHL

Just the bad PR alone makes this an NHL problem. This is the exact scenario everyone was afraid of when putting a team in Vegas. Surprised something like this took this long to come forward, to be honest. Plus Kane is a POS so not sad it is him.

The NHL at the very least needs to know if he has other gambling debts out there and with who.

If he owes 500k to one casino, who else does he owe money to?

The combination of a sports figure and gambling, especially gambling debts is always concerning for the league.

Loansharks? He owes money to a large corporation. Take it easy fellas.

We also have no idea why he hasn't paid? Maybe he was crazy loaded and felt the Casino took advantage of him and shouldn't have extended the credit. Who knows? Until he responds we should probably reserve judgment.

I'm also not sure why he's a POS because of this.

I disagree having a team in Vegas impacts this. Guys who gamble will gamble.

I bet Kane makes his way to Vegas multiple times a year anyway.

Yes, but it's not outrageous to think he owes money to multiple people. I've known people with gambling problems.

If he does owe money to other people, his on-ice integrity could be compromised. All I'm saying.

Really? It's not outrageous to think that someone who has a marker at a legal gambling establishment in the gambling capital of the world also owes money to Fat Tony?

I would make the case the NHL does need to get in on this. A pro athlete this heavy into gambling, they have to make damn sure he wasn't betting on hockey.

agree with the comment that vegas having a team has nothing to do with this. If vegas didn't have a team, he'd likely have gambled the money away somewhere else, or in vegas on some other night.

Maybe he does owe Fat Tony, or Multiple casinos, maybe he did bet on hockey and maybe he didn't.

Its an integrity of the game issue more then a personal issue of a guy with a gambling issue.

If I was the Sharks I would be worried about Kane's pending broken leg if he doesn't pay up!

Unpaid markers can also lead to criminal charges. They aren't loans - they are essentially like writing a bad check. You are supposed to have enough cash in the bank to cover them.

I also expect that his $500K is more like $600-700K with interest charged after 30 days (it's like 18%) and court costs (not even including his own).
