Sun is usually gone at 4 in Regina in October.

Sunset in Regina is 5:45 today. The rink would need time to chill again if there was an above average day (they don’t have an accurate 200 day forecast to predict the game conditions), and it’s slotted in its usual HNIC time. I really didn’t think anyone would need a breakdown as to why the game was at 8.

The wind will be 30-50km from the NW. Mosaic runs north-south. SO there will be a tremendous wind advantage one way.
At least with football, there are 4 quarters. But hockey being 3 periods, this will be a huge factor for the game. Basically choosing ends will decide this game.

Haven’t they evened this out in previous outdoor games by switching mid period? Or am I crazy?

They usually switch at 10 min in the 3rd, so they will likely have even time.
Now obviously there is no assurance the wind will blow equally at those times

That was my (unasked) question, because I couldn't remember. So they do switch ends at the 10 minute mark? (they should)

Yes, I think they sound the horn and stop play then switch ends

Can you imagine if these lines ACTUALLY worked? It would be the first time in what EVER where Johnny wasn’t playing with Monahan for more than a game.

I recommend watching the lindy mic'd up video, he seems fun. Interestingly he seems closest to Monahan from that video (calls him bro every sentence, joking with him the most)

I imagine Lindholm and Monahan probably first connected with each other at the 2013 Draft when they were picked back-to-back.

Why is that? This will be a rare occasion where I actually CAN watch an outdoor game. It's the noon or 2pm games I don't like as it's always busy over the weekends during hockey season. For me anyways.

I’ve lived in Regina. It’s doom and gloom nearly 24/7. You never need to worry about ice melting.
Sunset in October isn’t really critical as the sun is low and west way before sunset time. The ice would be in shadow by 3.
Either way the sun isn’t relevant to the start time. Game two of HNIC dictates.

Well, in 2014 Gaudreau basically made Jooris look like a legit NHL player for a few months

I’d imagine you’re in the minority for free time during the weekend. Also, with most NHL viewership living out east, a 10pm start means only dedicated NHL fans would watch the whole game, and that’s not exactly the target audience of these events.

Because it's an outdoor game in Regina in October. Also, it's one of the league's showcase events. They usually schedule those to air during prime time in the Eastern time zone.
The Flames have played in the early HNIC game before if Toronto or Montreal are in town.
They could have scheduled the Heritage Classic as the early game and given the Leafs (who played last night) and Habs the night off and scheduled the Oilers-Panthers as the late HNIC game.
