There are three waiver exempt forwards making $700-925K each. One of them moved to the A clears that room. Or they can acheive the same by waiving Labanc, Goodrow, Radil or Brodzinski.

If I'm not mistaken, there are only 5 players left who were drafted before the year 2000:

Chara (1996)
Thornton and Marleau (1997)
Anderson and Miller (1999)

I wonder who will last the longest

My guess would be Marleau or Thornton

They have to send someone down to clear a roster spot and literally anyone they send down clears at least 700k so this signing is a nothing from a cap perspective.

Not a fair question though. Chara is still a dominant force on ice. He's a true hockey phenomenon. Thornton and Marleau, while both being great players and super-stars, have had a lot less influence on ice in the past 2-3 years than Chara, in comparison. And Miller is pretty much done.

Might be a huge mistake for both player and team to miss training camp and the first week and a bit of the season.

I know he's not Jagr old, but he's still old and clearly losing steps by the game these past couple years. I bet he struggles mightily to even play at the NHL level let alone contribute with this start.

maybe it's just a case of wife wants him out of the house. "OK fine, I'll go make $700K for the year in California".
