I thought he'd been retired for years.

He was one of my favourite players while on the Flames.

The acquisition of Stempniak was one of the better moves Feaster made. He then re-signed on a good contract.

If I recall, they traded Stempniak to Pittsburgh for a 3rd round pick, and then traded that pick (Matteson Iacopelli) for Brandon Bollig. Stempniak, meanwhile, spent another 5 years in the NHL with commendable production.

Incidentally, for Stempniak's 10 team service record. Former Flames Michel Petit and Olli Jokinen are among those 7 people who have played for 10 teams.
Tony Hrkac played for 10 teams as well, plus Dallas and St. Louis twice, but also did stints in the AHL and IHL in between.

He changed teams 18 times over his 15 year pro career.

Holy cow, I totally missed Jokinen's farewell your of the NHL in his retirement season, between Nashville, T.O., and St Louis. Was not aware of any of that happening.

Stempniak may have been streaky, but when he was on he was a treat to watch. I hope his post-hockey life goes well.

The definition of a hot and cold kind of player. But, when he was hot he was an absolute treat to watch as one of the best secondary scorers we've had in a while.

I really liked Stempniak, solid player for most of his career and one of the more enjoyable players on our team during that rebuild, in my opinion. Happy retirement.
