Great deal and a very reasonable bridge. Would like to see him traded at the deadline if the Jets are not doing well.

Now get Connor signed.

I don't get giving up on a 20 year old goal scorer.

I made snap judgments in life and hockey. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

I personally think that Point is underpaid by about 750k, but even using that as a comparable, this is too much. No chance he should be getting more than 6m on a two year term. He's a one dimensional streaky winger. The fact that he's elite at that one dimension, and that it's an important dimension (goal scoring) is the reason for the 6m as an RFA, but this is not a good deal for me.

Yeah the bridges are back. I wonder if one of these RFAs either has a serious injury or underperforms severely that it affects their ability to sign a second contract, if we don't see the longer term contracts come back into favour again. I have a feeling this could be a back and forth adjustment under the cap system.

Yeah point is a steal...I was just joking because some here were outraged that Matty made more than Point

Laine will make more...possibly a lot more over the next 3 years

Good deal for the Jets. $6.75 m buys a lot of perogies.

IMO you try a different coach first before giving up one of/if not the best shot in hockey.

Someone posted some stats about how when he plays with them their advanced stats get worst. The jets fan thinks he needs to be gifted top like minutes and I am arguing he shouldn’t.

pretty good deal for both sides...

Laine needs to round out his game a bit more imo if he wants to get more. Right now, if he doesn't score, does he really add much to the lineup?

2 years should give him enough time to prove himself as a guy that you can count on in all situations.

I am glad they got it done at a reasonable rate. He has potential but he has not reached it and I am skeptical if he will. He needs to be better this year to win back the support of his fan base. I am a far bigger fan of Connor, that kid plays with heart and talent.

I don't get that from this tweet (unless you're making a joke, and in that case I really missed it).

However, Rantanen is a much better overall player. That would be a steal for Winnipeg and I'd lock him up for as long as possible if I was Colorado.

Everyone talks about MacKinnon, and rightly so, but I've been noticing some elite play from Rantanen for 2.5 seasons. The kid is just as much a stud as anyone in the league. He wasn't a top 5 pick (10th), but he's an amazing player and would probably go 3rd or 4th (with Marner) in a redraft behind McDavid and Eichel.

Laine: lots of hype, and you can see why with his shot and ability to finish. Reminds me a LOT of Brett Hull. But he is not well rounded at all. So unless he's scoring around 40 goals, he's not worth a lot to a team.

He'll have a career, but he won't be anywhere near Ovechkin levels, despite the comparisons made early on. He just doesn't have that drive to succeed the way Ovechkin does. I expect him to prove himself more this year, but I think the Jets have soured on him and would be willing to trade him in a high profile deal the way someone like Drouin was traded a few years ago. (oh, and the Canadiens are trying to move Drouin just a couple years after acquiring him.)
