People that pose with dead animals that they killed are sick in the head. Even if you eat it afterwards. Who on earth thinks posing with a corpse is cool?
These people give hunters a bad name. Kill an animal and eat it. I have no problems with that. But don’t pose for pictures. That’s just disturbing to me.

Yeah the comment about this being legal is actually very ironic. It's legal in South Africa because of unique laws relating to apartheid allowing land owners to also own wildlife. And a law in the constitution worded like the 2nd amendment of the American constitution...never intended to permit lion farming but here we are because of money.
The other ironic comment is that the meat is used so it's ok. South Africa lions aren't eaten by anyone. The bones are sent to Asia and that's almost exclusively (98% of lions) how they are used. That fuels an otherwise illegal exotic animal trade that results in further markets for poachers.
I'm ranting now. But the tacky picture of these two kissing over their poach really underscores the actual tragedy here.

Meh, not like I support it by any means, I just don't know enough to have a strong opinion either way.

Kind of the plot from this '90s masterpiece that paired cinematic legends Ice-T and Gary Busey together.

But if numbers are suffering due to non-legal hunting factors (aka poaching) then doesn't legal hunting need to be reduced to compensate? Seems weird for people who supposedly care deeply about conservation to say "Well, if they're poaching then that's why this species is threatened, but we're still going kill ours because we get to!!….and we also care very much about these animals".

I worked at "More Than Video" in Huntington Hills when that piece of sh** came out on video.
I distinctly recall have to regularly offer refunds from people who were angry about how bad it was. I started to just tell people not to rent it and go find something else.

Isn’t that like saying farmed salmon consumption needs to drop if the wild pop drops?
At least in this case these animals are farmed to be hunted. And in general most of the legal hunting being done is farmed.

What is trophy hunting? at what point does it cross the line? If the animal is harvested but i choose to shoot one with a larger rack (which most consider the trophy aspect) what is wrong?

They will issue tags based on the numbers of animals and the biologists carrying limit. Sad to say but these raised game farms do a better job of conservation than most governments. And i assure you the hunting groups or conservationists do more for the animals and habitat than the anti-hunting groups do.

There are actually lots of things wrong with that. It's all good if your species has a healthy population. But, for example, lions. People go to Africa to kill the biggest, baddest male lion they can find...a trophy male. These are the leaders of the pack. When one dies, the lesser males come along and kill all the cubs the old lion had, they take out a couple of the productive females. Then they kill each other until the next alpha cat emerges. So killing one trophy lion destroys multiple animals and breeding cycles.
Same for elephants, rhinos, all other cats, pretty much everything people consider a trophy.

There are many problems with farmed lions just as there are with farmed fish. When you really look into it, wild lion populations would be much healthier and much better off without farmed hunting. Farmed hunting has destroyed lion populations. Jay's also talking about legal wild lion hunting. Not farmed lion hunting. Why would a conservation minded hunter think it's ok to shoot a lion when there aren't enough of them around? There's a specific scenario where it may be beneficial to kill off an older male of a species but that's up to biologists not hunters.

Were refunds a thing for bad movies? I don't recall ever asking for a refund because a movie was bad. At the end of the day it's on the renter to do a little homework on the movie in advance if $5.50 means that much to them.

Read the back of the box. Duh.
I used to go to a place in Red Deer called Hollywood video. The nice owner there would generally give you a discount/free rental if you rented a terrible movie. But we were regular customers.

You look at the box art, and look at who the actors are, and read the nice summary on the back. If you are lucky there will also be some fair and balanced quotes from critics. Then you pass it to your GF/wife/whoever, and watch their face cues as they review the box. Times were tougher then.

Yes, but in this particular instance who would have thought that the Triumphant Trio of Ice-T, Rutger Hauer and Gary Busey would lead them astray?
Its inconceivable!!

It was easy, actually. I bought the movie review paperback books every two or three years. They had capsule reviews written by newspaper reviewers.
