It may well be there is a sweetener going from TOR to OTT to facilitate Zaitsev for Ceci. It could be a player (Connor Brown?) or it could be a pick. But there will no doubt be some additional piece going from TOR to OTT.

Side note: The Score app posted about the Leafs, "However, the team can place Nathan Horton and his $5.3M cap hit on long-term injured reserve to free up space."
1) I don't know how that works
2) Can't believe Nathan Horton is still on the books
An interesting bit on the Horton contract is that it was uninsured, so the team is on he hook for paying him while he’s injured. The Blue Jackets took Clarkson off the Leafs so they could at least have somebody playing that they were paying (but wouldn’t have to pay if he were injured) and didn’t need LTIR relief, while the Leafs were fine with paying Horton so long as they could get the cap relief.
It may have been the first pure cap trade where neither team wanted the player they acquired to actually play for them.

Yeah you would think the Leafs would have to send another asset to Ottawa or the optics of this trade aren't very good for the Senators helping out their Ontario rival.

The OTT-TOR trade that will send Nikita Zaitsev and Connor Brown to the Sens for Cody Ceci should be consummated tomorrow morning once TOR pays Zaitsev’s $3M signing bonus. At least six pieces (players or picks) included but the primaries are Zaitsev, Brown and Ceci.
I like it for Ottawa, honestly. Brown is a solid middle six winger that had his ice time reduced because of all the shiny toys, but I'd expect him to bounce back and put up good numbers in Ottawa. Zaitsev is overpaid, but that's not an issue for a team that struggles to even get to the cap floor. Ceci isn't very good.

He had his time reduced because players below him deserved more lifetime. Kappy, Johnsson, Trevor Moore even Tyler Ennis showed a lot.more than Brown.
Brown is a defensive specialist. I'd say a solid 4th liner.
Every time Kadri was able to get away from him his number shot up.
Brown spent a lot of time with Marleau, Nylander and Kadri.
Ceci has agreed to a 1 year $4.5 mil deal with the Leafs. He will be UFA after this season.
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Yes, Ceci verbally agreed to a one year, $4.5 million contract with the Leafs. Arb case likely would have come in above that and that wouldn’t have worked for Toronto. Good opportunity for Ceci to raise his market value.
Trade makes Toronto worse both up front and on the blue line (Zaitsev > Ceci; Brown > Harpur) but they clear some cap and get a pick out of it which one assumes was their main goal.

It's debatable if Ceci is worse than Zaitsev. Defensively he's probably worse but offensively he's a lot better. Anyways it's one year so after this season he's gone. Zaitsev will have 4 more years after this year.
Does that include Horton, though, who's going on LTIR?
EDIT: Appears to do. So Marner 10.5, Ceci 4.5, and Spezza 700k, plus Marincin or Holl sent down, and you've got a cap compliant Leafs team on opening night. Not a ton of wiggle room, but enough.

Forgot that Horton feller would show up against the hit.
So Horton's hit is Ceci and Spezza will be but there is about 100k less in the other two. So they have 11.5M to sign Marner and bring them right up against the cap... Moves are still required if they want to make changes.
