The Flames should get Sam Bennett signed asap before some team decides to offer sheet him.

Happy is a great player. His PKing along is worth his contract.

He's got to work on using his teammates more. So many times he'd be racing down the wing and have a teammate open trailing him and he'd just snap a floater at the goalies crest. Definitely gets tunnel vision.

And Calgary takes the 2nd round pick and never looks back. That is a Lance Bouma level of bad contract for a player that has never done anything. Bennett is a slightly better version of Jake Virtanen. You don't pay players like that $4M a season and have a competitive team. Any GM that makes that offer should have their keys taken away from them and given a box to clean out their office.

Calgary wouldn’t be happy losing Bennett for a second round pick.

The book on Bennett is not closed yet.

If the alternative is paying Sam Bennett $4M a season, they would break out in the ####ing dance of joy to dump the risk on another team. Sam Bennett has proven he is a 25-30 point player, even with favorable ice time. He's a $2.5M player tops. Someone offers $4M a season, you say screw the Uber and you drive him to the airport yourself.

Disagree. Bennett is what he is. It's been 300+ games. He's a 25-30 point player with limited upside. He may get to the dirty spots on the ice, but his shot does n't beat NHL goaltenders. He may play with an edge, but when you suck at everything else, there's not much worth paying for. He's a slightly better version of Jake Virtanen. No one with a brain in their head pays $4M for that level of player.
