Hahahahaha! Totally not worth it. This one is going to be a contract the Sharks regret.

I think they can still be a good team in the immediate future but when you look at those contract it really does look like bad times on the horizon. It seems like a lot of teams are banking on players playing effectively over 35+ but while some players manage to cheat father time, the reality is that that's not the norm.

IMO he is better than John Tavares for the same money but obviously health is a question mark

Wow. That's a lot on money for a guy who has had a hard time staying healthy. I wonder if the Sharks are planning on trading one of their top guys to get everyone else signed?

I'm guessing the Sharks are banking on a big Cap uptick with Seattle coming in?

I'm seeing some of these contracts and wondering if teams are banking on the LTIR loophole to end some of these deals?

What insurance company underwrites these contracts? If I were an actuary I'd be apoplectic.

Well...as much as an insurance actuary can be.

I wonder if the rumors of his old lady wanting to go back to Ottawa were just hogwash or a play by the agent to milk more money from the Sharks. Either way, brilliantly played by Karlsson's camp.

An overpayment to be sure by the team, but good for the player.

I strongly disagree. Tavares has been consistent whereas there's a HUGE difference between the Ottawa Karlsson and the San Jose Karlsson.

People continue to predict the downfall of the Sharks and continue to be wrong every time.

When you draft, develop and trade the way they do you will have continued success.

Hertl - 24
Couture - 29
Meier - 21
Pavelski- 34 (UFA)
Kane - 27
Lebanc - 22

That's their top 6 scoring forwards in order last season and their ages ranging from 74 to 56 points. Now they have two Norris contending elite offensive Dmen who are both younger than Gio.

I want them to suck as much or more than anyone, but I will believe it when I see it.

The way he is trending he'll be on LTIR in a few years so no cap hell.
Wonder if they managed to insure the contract?

Wilson has been a very very good GM. But itrs just possible he is entering "oh crap, my team is on the decline" mode, and is doing a bunch of dumb long term stuff to try and extend the short term window.

Lol they had 35, 27, 30, 38, 30 and 17 goals from top to bottom.

So about middle of the pack league wide I assume? Since they are merely "average"?

Whoof. I was expecting about 10. I guess maybe once this current core is done, Doug Wilson retires and he figures it'll be the next guy's problem if it all goes south.

I love how Leaf fans still think Marner is coming in under 10. I know, I know, RFA, but the stars are really getting paid now.

So does this all but guarantee Pavelski goes UFA? Leaves them with only $14M and they're going to have to give Meier a pretty decent raise coming out of RFA.

Yeah, Karlsson is not exactly the picture of health.
