Haven't paid too close attention, but is there any indication Eichel and Housley didn't get along, or is this just people bringing up tired stories from before and assuming they're fact? He did have his best season this year.
82, 64 & 57 point seasons for Eichel with injuries. Has he met expectations in his career so far? -11, -25 & -13 not including his rookie season. Buffalo has been a tire fire for a while now but have some really good pieces. They'll get another nice piece this offseason.
If you were a coach, which roster has more potential to come closer to Lord Stanley? The Oil or Buff? Neither city is what I call ideal

Who has more potential between Edmonton and Buffalo? Buffalo does, hands down. It's not even close.
Better defense, better goaltending. Better forward depth. Better all around. Edmonton counts on McDavid to lead the way single handedly. Buffalo is trying to build team depth around Eichel.

Yeah, it's not much to brag about, but I still take our roster over the Oilers every day. We have some solid prospects in depth positions, much better defense (Dahlin, Ristolainen, and Montour are a real solid young group to build around), and NHL-caliber goaltending. Even our albatross contract (Okposo) isn't as bad as theirs (Lucic).

I'm hearing that Todd McLellan is closing in on an agreement to replace Phil Housley as the next coach of the Buffalo Sabres and that an announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

If he does go to Buffalo
1) I'm kind of surprised they didn't wait to see if Babcock gets canned if the Leafs go out in R1
2) There is a guy out of LA (Dennis Bernstein?) who has been updating McLellan to the Kings like he was at the negotiating table beside him. Black eye for that guy.

McLellan is a good coach. I don't think there is much separating him and Babcock. He was badly scapegoated in Edmonton for having to coach a roster full of sewer rats, and I think will prove his mettle next year in Buffalo.

Except....success.
Sorry, McLellan has always struck me as someone who has always ridden along coaching great teams and really underachieving.
I dont see anything to make me believe hes any good.

Agreed. Just that the Sabres went hard after Babs when he was available and with the recent rumors that he could be on the outs if the Leafs do poorly it seemed to make some sense timing wise.
Mike Babcock last won a playoff round in 2013...behind a stacked team in Detroit.
As for success, it is a tall order for any coach to have much with perennial chokers in SJ all those years, and to follow that up with coaching the worst team in professional sports. McLellan is better than his resumé.
