Jiri was correct with what I was thinking.

Pat just mentioned on the FAN the NHL is loose with the requirements of making an emergency recall. Sounds like they are manufacturing an injury and guys like Monahan, Lindholm, and Bennett can sit

Curious, is the emergency recall (or in that effect, call ups and waivers) no longer in effect after the regular season - meaning a playoff team can theoretically call up the whole farm team if they want to?

If I remember correctly there is a limit but its just something like 5 extra players at a time. They're usually called black aces.

I don't believe there is a limit to the number of Black Aces a team can have. I'd expect almost the entire Heat roster to be up for the Flames' playoffs.

Lazar, Foo, Graovac, Robinson, Phillips, Gawdin, Valiev, Healey, Lomberg, Gillies, and Parsons will probably all go around with the team, just to stay sharp in case they're needed.

Here's an article on the Penguins' Black Aces from last year: https://www.pensburgh.com/2018/4/28/...ins-black-aces

Yes, once the AHL team's season is over, you can call up as many players from the AHL as you want.

Between the end of the NHL season and the end of your AHL team's season, you can have 4 players on your NHL roster who were recalled on a non-emergency basis from the AHL after the trade deadline. During that time, if you send one of the recalled players down, you can recall a different player to replace him. There are no limits on the number of recalls that can be done after the NHL regular season is over so long as you don't have more than 4 recalled players at a time. Emergency recalls are also still available during this time if you get hit by injuries during the playoffs.

The Heat play their final game of the season on April 14, which will be after the first two games of the Flames' playoffs. At that point, anyone who is in Stockton on an NHL contract can be brought to Calgary.

Odd that Gaudreau is the only member of the top line playing. Trying to help him get to 100 pts?

I think that is exactly it. It is a pretty major milestone.

So maybe they should try him on the PK but instead of defending in his zone , let him cherry pick once or twice!

Another thing I wonder about sitting guys for these end of season games is how bonuses come into play. Like say Lindholm has a bonus that kicks in at 80 pts, do the Flames give him the option to play? Or do they say he's close enough, they'll give him the bonus but they want him to rest for a couple games?

The only players with bonus clauses are those on ELCs and those on +35 contracts.

Gaudreau has a good shot of getting the 3 points with Ryan. Doc is flying and scoring out there. A couple apples and a goal against the Ducks and Oilers should be doable. Rooting for him.

Hopefully Gaudreau puts up a 3-spot tonight so he can be "injured" on Saturday.

The only player who can realistically earn any performance bonuses this season is Tkachuk and he has already hit all the necessary milestones to max them out.

Some of the younger guys have games played bonuses.

They could be up and recalled, the Black Aces as you say but they aren't travelling with the team. They'll be a seperate group entirely, stay in Calgary with Stockton staff staying sharp. Doubtful the group is that massive too.
