Either Boucher asked to be relieved or this saves Melnyk some money somehow

What is the point in doing this now? Its over. They should have just let him finish the season.

What does Dorion expect him to do? You shipped all of your good players out of town and Ottawa was playing with most of their AHL team and they still had the Superstar Oilers on the ropes.

What a gong show.

Maybe they figured the Sens will get the new coach bump and sell a few extra tickets

can you imagine being a STH and getting a renewal that likely was an increase over last year......melnyk is a terrible owner. hard to imagine he made enough money to get in a position to be able to acquire a hockey team.....

Truthfully....yes they probably need new ownership beyond all that.

Since that isn't happening any time soon, they for sure need a new GM that can handle Melnyk.

Cause this firing has owner decision written all over it.

Until then, at the very least, nothing will change for that franchise.

Its a remarkable 2 or 3 years this team has gone though both on and off the ice.

Was Crawford working for the team in some other capacity before? So random.

Melnyk for Katz, one for one deal. That would be pretty funny.

Crawford has been an associate coach in Ottawa for a couple years.

I think this might work for both sides

-Melnyk would clear out all the Oilers alums getting paid to do nothing

-Katz would spend to the cap in Ottawa and he probably doesn't give a crap about Daniel Alfredsson or Alexei Yashin

But the problem for Ottawa would be that Katz would fill the executive with Kevin Lowe, Craig MacTavish, Gretzky and the rest of the Oilers cronies. It would be an attempted recreation of the 1990s New York Rangers.

Fun fact: Marc Crawford still does a weekly spot on Vancouver radio every Saturday with his old buddy "Bro" Jake Edwards. It is as ridiculous as you imagine it to be.
