Then you'd have two of them and be twice as dangerous.

Stone checks off a ton of boxes for this team and is likely one of the top 10 two-way forwards in the league, and is only 26. I'd be okay to see Treliving part with a significant package with a long-term agreement in place, as some of those assets and the cap structure can likely be recouped by trading Brodie in the off-season for futures.
But I'd also be okay with a smaller acquisition like Zuc, Hayes, or Simmonds if the price is fair (i.e. no first-rounder involved). The nice thing is that the team is rolling as-is and isn't under any immediate pressure to improve, so likely has some flexibility in how they approach the deadline.

Agreed. Goalies D and center are where to spend it. So much on a winger makes little sense for me.

This is probably what I think a package for Stone looks like, with maybe a smaller swap of picks tacked on (i.e. 3rd for 5th).

I don't think that is quite enough, just because I feel other teams may give better offers (looking at Winnipeg). I think it's close though.

If the Flames had a goalie like Kipper, I’d say go for it, but even with the Flames record as it is, I don’t have enough confidence in their tandem for a deep run. Please don’t sell the farm, you still have to sign Chucky as well.

Mark Stone is one of the best wingers in the league. Behind Ovechkin/Kucherov/Kane. Quite near the Gaudreau/Marner/Pastrnak territory, his defensive game is pretty much tops amongst them.

Without being able to do anything about the goaltending next year if required, lose at least 2 current forwards and one dman over the summer at latest, and really limit being able to sign other guys who provide things he does not.
I just fail to see the upgrade as enough to make a difference with the downgrade that would occur on the rest of the roster.

Say, can we keep trade proposals in the "Trade Speculation and Rumours" thread? I like following the news and peoples's thoughts about Stone, but the never-ending proposals get exhausting.
There's a thread for that.

This could change but I'm starting to think Tkachuk might get 3x6.5

Boomer now weighing in:
Quote:

Flames brass are all assembled now in NYC and will conduct deadline business from there. Some attended Rangers game at MSG even Zuc, Hayes and MacQuaid didn’t dress. I do believe they are in on Zuc, but probably see him as a fall back if a Mark Stone deal doesn’t happen.
|
With Boomer talking about “if a Mark Stone deal doesn’t happen”...oh this is getting really exciting.
Stone is adding a top end core piece. I’d be so stoked...

But this is with the implication that he intends to sign.
It's not all that scary if you know you'll have Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm and Stone in your top 6 for the next three playoffs or more.
You're in better shape over the length of a potential Stone contract than you would with a couple 20 something picks. You'd be fortunate if they turned out to be anywhere near Stone's level.

If we hypothetically do get Stone, what impact does that have on our protected list going into 2021?
I'm sure BT must have modeled that to see the consequences prior to making any deal.

It does make sense to include Frolik - he's a good player with some salary and term for next year. At some point, Ottawa is going to have to dress an NHL roster next year and hit the salary floor. The picks and Dube would be pretty attractive. To make the salary work, Brodie is gone now or in the summer too.

I think they would love Mark Stone. He’s big, strong, fiery and with the “give a crap meter” on high at all times. He checks a lot of boxes and I would see Treliving as a big fan. I think the Flames have been on him for a long time, even prior to his last contract in OTT.

I trust Treliving, he usually has all his asset management angles covered. Dude is the personification of due diligence.
Still leaves me uncomfortable about the teams direction if they do go big and go hard on Stone.
