The Manning for Caggiula trade was on December 29. At the time, the Oilers were in 10th place in the West, only 2 points back of the second wild card. They were 5 points ahead of the Blackhawks, who were 14th in the West, only one point ahead of the Kings.

Now, the Oilers are 14th in the West, only one point ahead of the Kings. Chicago is 3 points back of the second wild card and 4 points ahead of the Oilers.

Since the trade, Chicago has a 10-6-3 record in 19 games. Edmonton has a 6-13-2 record in 21 games.

Didn't Hitch healthy-scratch Manning after only a couple of games? In light of that, his comments above are pretty funny.

And it’s not like Caggiula is lighting it up in Chicago - he’s scoring at the same rate. It’s more like addition by subtraction for the Blackhawks and subtraction by addition for the Oilers

Caggiula was the Oilers' 5th best forward. They miss him terribly.

Meanwhile Manning provided exactly zero to them on the blueline.

As if we needed more proof the Hitchcock experiment has been an unmitigated disaster.

Quote:
Of significance: This decision suggests that the Peter Chiarelli-Ken Hitchcock influence on this club’s recent roster construction is over. It’s my understanding Hitch encouraged Chiarelli to acquire Manning. So while absolutely correct to place this at the feet of the former General Manager, the Head Coach gets “some on him” as well. This also signals that AGM Keith Gretzky is in no uncertain terms the captain of this ship right now.

Hitch should have stayed retired. His coaching abilities have been going downhill for a while. Looks like his scouting skills are also lacking.

^ Christ they like to turn on each other up there!

The management, the coaches, the players, the fans, and especially the media, all just can't wait to point the finger at a new culprit and blame them for everything wrong in Shelbyville.

When will they ever realize that there is far more wrong in Shelbyville than any one man could ever create on his own?

So the Oilers have put Spooner (traded), Rattie and Manning on waivers in the past month? Are they trying to demote their whole team to the minors to hide salary $900k at a time?

It's hilarious that they cling to one or two people as scapegoats when the real issue starts at Katz because as long as he has the OBC in the building nothing will ever change.

Nah, this is horse####, just another scape goat to prepare the fanbase before he is shown the door.

Hitch will be gone in a couple weeks.

Chicago was too happy just to find a taker for that contract. I guess stranger things have happened, but I can't see anyone taking him.

I know he’s an Oiler, but I actually feel bad for him in that regard. It’s a pretty pathetic way to treat a guy. (Unless he had the option and decided to go of course)
