Lol at Chia. Schlemko is probably better than Petrovic, and is for sure better than Manning. And he could have had him for free rather than giving up anything for worse options. I hope Chiapet is an Oiler GM for life!

I don't know if there's a spot on the team for Schlemko now. But IMO it was a mistake to not re-sign him during the 2015 off-season. He was a such a good fit during his time here.
Fine. But he still isn't depth. Kylington becomes the depth D in that scenario. Guess that was my point.
Disagree. “Depth” is all the players in the lineup not just the ones at the bottom of the heap. Gio is part of our defensive depth as is Brodie, Hanifin, Hamonic, Valimaki, Andersson, Kylington, Prout and Stone.
That said Gio is not a depth defenceman, that usage usually means 5-8 guy. Kronwall would be a depth defenceman contributing to our depth.

How can he make that trade for Manning and Petrovic and then Schlemko comes up on waivers for free a week later? Did Chia not call Montreal? Is he trying to get fired? Watch him waive the tenderness just to get himself launched into the sun.
So much nogoodness that it overflows out of the dedicated thread into threads like this about Schlemko.

Fair enough. I see deadline deals for depth to be for players in waiting should there be an injury.
Funny how a rookie Johnny Gaudreau literally made this guy an NHL player as linemates for the first half of the 14-15 season, and set him up on a pretty decent career for a guy with the skills that Jooris has.

Jooris actually saved the shootout for the Flames the previous round by going backhand roof on Rask. He was followed by Stone Hands Lucic on possibly the worst shootout attempt in the history of the NHL, before Schlemko ended it. What a season that was.
