With 40 teams I assume that there would be teams in Banff, Red Deer and Airdrie, and most of us on CP could likely make some team.

Also, we should have a North Calgary team and a South Calgary team, so we could start a civil war anytime we wanted.

And how come no one puts a team in Baltimore?

I think a European division is closer than we think. Whether it will succeed or not is a different question but I think that’s the next move for the NHL. So I think a 5th 8 team division is possible.

London
Paris
Stockholm
Helsinki
Berlin
Prague
Zürich
And maybe a gamble in a non-traditional market, maybe Rome?

There is no value in adding 8 more teams in NA. The dilution of the TV deal doesn’t outweigh the expansion dollars at some point. So you need to be able to expand the TV market to make more teams make sense.

I think they are done NA expansion. I don’t think Euro teams would be that bad in terms of travel each team would take their European road trip to play each team once. Each European team would likely take two extended road trips to NA playing 16 games on each trip.

However, if there is further expansion, I'd be surprised to see any of the existing teams moved, with the possible exception of the Panthers -- but even then, that seems very unlikely. Moving the Coyotes seems like a pipe-dream at this point, and even then, I'd bet the League would prefer they become successful and profitable, which, with another 2012-like season or two, could definitely happen.

Some people would get a lot of pleasure out of this.

Would be epic if Climax, Sk also got a team and they played each other in the SCF

Call me a naysayer, but the logistics of this are monumental. I believe to make a euro division work, you need to have 5 to 8 teams join the league in one season. Imagine the process of getting this many teams ready to go at the same time.

I can’t imagine how you would make the playoffs work, once a euro division winner is declared. Then what, how can you have teams jetting back and fourth across the ocean. Imagine if a west coast team played an euro team.

This would suck so bad, it's already so hard to win a cup. With 40 teams, I'd lose interest knowing we'd be unlikely to see that in my lifetime.

I would like to see a return to a 30 team league, achieved by revoking the Edmonton Oilers franchise.

Or at least a league that includes the Charlestown Chiefs.
