Have to agree with Incinerator on this one. The clublife in Calgary is rather boring when compared to other cities. If you are looking for more of a lounge/pub style atmosphere then there are several places that you may like. Such as Bungalow, Melrose, Yardhouse, Classic Jacks, Plush, etc.

It all depends on what kind of music that you like, when it comes to the clubscene. Though as I said before, its really nothing to get excited about. There are is nothing or no strips in Calgary like that in Van(Granville Strip), Toronto(Richmond club district), or Montreal. The Downtown scene really shuts down or is limited with people in the later hours of the day. Although its merely due to the fact Calgary has the lowest percentage of people that live in the core. You wont see many people in the core let alone walking around like you do on say Robson, Granville, etc. Hopefully it changes soon with the condos all being built.

17th Avenue(or the Red Mile) is filled with mostly restaurants, pubs, lounges, etc...not really any clubs. The 1st Street district is just over a block, on one side only, so you could try that. Then there are a few clubs in the downtown district that you could check out. But, in reality the club scene in Calgary is surely lacking compared to other major cities. Enjoy the lounges, pubs, etc because that is what this city has turned into the last number of years.

What kind of music or atmosphere do you like?

my first day in calgary is over, I have been up since 4am this morning, hence the reason, I am online at 1037..........but I like Calgary so far, my buddy and i are stayin at the Sheraton and I saw the entire Stars team in the lobby this afternoon, modano and guerin were walkin side by side, i thought that was kinda cool.........Anyways, im startin to get used to the constant chap lips and wind that comes outta nowhere, but im sure it gets 20 times worse in the winter.........

Despite the result of the game, I really enjoyed myself, I found myself all emotional and shinguard during that montage before the game.....I dunno if it was the memories or the song, bc that one always gets to me.....I sat in Sec 226, Row 21, so dead center ice, but a little high up, but I had a great view....

My only criticism of calgary so far was the LTR after the game.....the station was ridiculous and I had to wait awhile to get from the Dome back to the Sheraton. The skytrain system in van is constant movin and the wait is never usually that long, even after events at GM Place. But if my only complaint is about the train system, thats really not that big a deal

My buddy and I got lost today. Stupid us, we were tryin to find the paramount chinook theatres, and I guess we got on the wrong train or something, because we ended up at this Marloborough center place then I looked at the train map, and we were way off course. And being stubborn, I refused to ask for directions. I just assumed it was like the Skytrain in Van where everything is on one big track and the train just does one very large circe of all like 20 stops...... But we ended double backin and we evetually got on the proper train and went and saw Domino. That was earlier today and at night, we had dinner and started drinkin at the pub inside the hotel and we kinda just stayed and drank there. Now we are back in the room and I am staring at this bottle of Evian water in our mini bar that the Sheraton has priced for a ridiculous 6 dollars. I dont know how or why that is relevant to my story, but I am just dumb founded by it. Tommorow is looking good, gonna maybe relax for a bit, i feel like gambling, so I am gonna hit up a casino and if I win enough, I am buyin a Phaneuf jersey guaranteed and I am goin to the game of course and then like i said in another thread, I have to decide whether or not, I am stayin for the Monday game

But, as of right now, I am havin a great time and despite the bad public transportation and the chapped lips of doom, I like Calgary a lot.

Well, just a head up. The C-Train is kinda like a Y. With a branch going NE, NW and South. If you dont have tickets for tomorrows game apparently there is a big tailgate party by the casino that might be worth checking out.

trains come every couple mins after a game....

It's no better at Stadium Skytrain station after a game.

oh, i couldnt disagree more. Im not just sayin that because Im from van, but the skytrain after an event at gm place is much better. There isnt the mosh pit of people waitin to get onto the train, sure there's lots of people, but since the trains come every other minute, the crows disperses fast. After the game on thrusday night, i was on the platform waitin for the train for 10 minutes, then I got on the train, and had to wait another 5 to get goin. No exaggerations here, because I kept track of time as I wanted to compare the 2 systems......

maybe you had a bad experience on the skytrain, but I find the system in van to be a class above the LTR. But, thats just me

Not all visiting teams stay at the Sheraton. So far, Chicago stayed at the Paliser this season. The Leafs never stay anywhere but the Paliser, too. Great stories about the Leafs buying armloads of DVD's to watch in the hotel rooms and then leaving them in the room the next day because they don't want to pack them...

FG probably had lots of experiences on the SkyTrain as he had Canuck season tickets when he lived out there. 82 Skytrain rides later...

We have no nasty bars anymore that I know of
I parked way down on 12th Ave and walked to the first couple games and on the other side around 1st or Centre there is one called "The Gravity Lounge". That place looks shady from the other side of the street!

I do agree that skytrain is a lot better, but i had some of the same issues after a game there, that i do here.

One thing i really like about skytrain, the trains are level with the platform, and the doors open automatically, and that is a million times easier for me.

Check out the shisha bar (club med on 10th ave) if your lookin for something new. (good for just hangin out and chilling with a few buddies)
Smugglers on Macleod is kind of a joke. They seat you in these huge king-like thrones and the place is so damn dark you can't even navigate. The food aint great and there are flies all over the washrooms.

Nicks steakhouse (right beside McMahon off crowchild) is a good place to go if you've got family coming down with you.

Have fun!

Well, I just got back from Calgary and my overall impression of the city is in the highest regard. I liked the people, I liked the layout of the city and thankfully I was in town and the weather was wondeful. The weather was the ony thing that worried me goin into the trip, I dont know how you guys do it year in and year out.

Highlight of the trip was obviously last nights game, I had a great time, my buddy that came with me is a scalper and he hooked me up with some solid tickets. If you took the train, you probably saw him tryin to sell you tix at a stupid price, he was wearin a gelians jersey for the dallas game and a black flames hoody last night. Anyways, he got us seats right behind the net in the second row. Unfortunately, it wasnt at the end where the goals happened or the big kipper save, but whatever. I liked the seats and I grew an even deeper appreciation for how fast this game is and just how big these guys are.

Anyways, im thinkin of makin this a annual trip in the future as I had a great time, and I can defintely see myself comin back come playoff time
