It is actually $7.5 x 6 (according to Kypreos). The weird cap hits are because of the CBA rules if an RFA signs after the season starts.

Booooooo. I was hoping he would sir out the entire year. Hopefully he wrecks the Leafs dressing room. There will be many not happy with him.

That cap hit is going to be difficult for the Leafs.

So basically by signing Nylander late they get his future caphit down by 520k, and only have to pay extra in the single year where they can afford to?
Sounds sketchy... like it was planned.

Nope I'd rather just see them suck

So..
Tavares $11M for 7 years
Nylander $6.9M for 7 years
Mathews, let's say $11M for 7/8 years
Marner, let's say $9M for 7/8 years
So about $38M on their top4 forwards.... Quite the recipe for success. It's win now mode this year clearly.

Yup that was a theory among Leaf fans since the start of the season that this what management wanted.

If there are, it will only be during the final season of the contract. He isn't eligible for an NTC/NMC until then.

According to capfriendly, cap hit is $10.2M for this year, and $6.9M for afterwards. Guess Dubas dragged it out as long as possible to save on subsequent years, but still, that's pricey.
You assume Marner's going to ask for just as much as Matthews.
Tavares: $11M
Matthews: $11M?
Marner: $11M?
Nylander: $6.9M
That's just shy of $40M tied to 4 forwards. They're lucky they got Andersson signed long term for $5M.

I guess we will find out soon enough.
Fascinating to watch either way though.
