Flames are 20th in waiver priority with LA, STL, PHI, CHI, OTT, VAN, FLA, ARI, NJ, DET, EDM, VGK, PIT, ANA, MTL, SJ, DAL, NYR, NYI having priority over them in that order.

Interesting statistic, Scott Darling didn't win two games in a row at all during his tenure with the Canes. Mcbackup has done that twice this season alone.

I wonder if this jockeying by the Canes is not a prelude to acquiring Nylander?

My only concern with Zykov would be his overall foot speed. Especially with the new uptempo game this year.

Why pickup somebody like Zykov when Mangiapane is right there?

Zykov is a pure RW. Unless they've used him as a RS LW like OV. Zykov is a mule. Big boy with a laser beam shot. Mangipane and Zykov are two extremely different players. Zykov potted 33 goals and 54 points last year. Big net front guy.
Claim him, better option than maybe a Czarnik.
EDIT: Watched his highlights from last year, poster child for the nickname garbage man. A ton of goals scored from a foot outside of the crease, or heavy snipes.

Always wanted Zykov. Good player. He will be claimed. Id be shocked honestly if he wasn't claimed.

Heh, his first NHL in his first NHL game was him scoring in front of the net off an AHO rebound with Mcdonaugh and Staal draped on him. Big strong mule.

Still formulating a complete thought. As you can tell, my complete thoughts are coming along nicely though. I think at the end of the day, I may like the player. Just a guess.

7 points in a 10 game late-season call-up. However, 5 of those points were scored in a 3 game stretch against Arizona and Ottawa, who were two of the worst teams in the league last season. Outside of that 3-game window, he hasn't done much of anything in the NHL (statistically, at least).

It gives them flexibility by opening up two roster spots, so that may be a factor. Beyond that, they look like logical hockey moves for the team to make. If a possible trade is a factor, it's likely a small one.
Carrying three goalies long-term is never a good idea and they've been doing so all season.
Also, it looks like Zykov was in the AHL on a conditioning loan over the last couple of weeks (where he only had 2 points in 6 games) and had to be recalled on Monday after his conditioning loan expired. Waiving him just gives them the option to send him back to the AHL.

Well put your name in there and see how it turns out.
Chiarelli is probably salivating at this though.

If you really want him you could swing a trade with an earlier placed team to claim him for you.

I would be surprised if Zykov got passed LA. He was drafted by LA and traded for Versteeg when the Kings were still contenders.

Yeah I guess that’s the only team you could do the deal with really.
Seriously though... what is this guy doing on waivers? His numbers look pretty good last year and pretty much every year before. Just 1 flat start and he’s out?
