It's been a minute since the internet has talked about this...
...but I wonder if that's exactly what we're seeing with Nylander.
If it's been anything, I've been hoping that this whole saga demonstrates GM's awareness of how "just $1-2M to land a piece" snowballs

I'm assuming that Weber's returning soon?

Believe there were reports last week that he might suit up tomorrow night.

He led the morning practice stretch today. They haven't officially announced it, but he will play tomorrow.

Definitely agree, I don't see Lucic bouncing back at all. But the sourness if he somehow did on another team...

Didn't think Alzner would turn out this bad but as one person alluded to, he is real slow and also really does nothing well at all, just like Lucic. Alzner has fallen off the cliff.
Could see him getting bought out and heading to the KHL next year or even the DEL in Germany.

Yeah, I remember when that deal was signed there was a fairly communal 'awkward collar tug.'
I mean, Alzner isnt garbage, hes a useful player, but the Habs already had Jeff Petry doing basically the same job only better.
Alzner offered no dynamism to the roster and it was at minimum about $1.5M too much.
I dont know what they were thinking on that one. The fact is though that if a team needs a fairly solid shut-down guy for 15-20 minutes a night hes a good pickup but they'd need the cap space.
His hit is really bad for what he brings to the table, knock that down and hes a good player, he just will never be value for money on this contract and, despite his claims of wanting to win, he'd be a tough contract to shoehorn in to a winning team for what he brings.

Actually he is garbage.
He can't skate worth a lick and can't do anything else remotely well to make up for that. The speed of the NHL game has passed Alzner by.
He is not good at any price.

They almost had to sign Alzner, even if the risk of his game falling off was real. It's just shocking how bad it fell off so quickly. This is a pretty unforgiving league when it comes to anyone losing a step these days. The margin for error is razor thin.

yeah, when Jordie Benn and a bunch of scrubs pass you on the depth chart, you aren't all that good.

Man, he was born in 1988 so he is 30. Have his skills deteriorated that much or is he that slow?

I really don't buy the falling off a cliff theory. Alzner is what he's always been, a pretty slow, steady d-man. Looking at his metrics from previous seasons compared to last year I'd say that he came exactly as advertised when Bergevin signed him. I suppose he got lost in the shuffle when the Habs changed up their game plan and their roster this year, but it's not like that is on Alzner. If Bergevin had ever had a vision and a long term game plan maybe he wouldn't have put himself and the player in this kind of situation. Anyway, I don't think it's fair to Alzner to assume this is on him falling off a cliff. Slow, defensive d-men don't do that in the way speedy forwards do, especially not at 30 years of age.
