The Oilers now get to experience their own 'Wideman-Effect.'

Sure, it may not be Dennis and have nothing to do with the refs, but this is Chiarelli 'fixing' the Oilers. With Chris Wideman.

Close enough.

"Everything is good now guys! Management has heard your pleas and fixed the roster!"

If this thread goes past page 3, I am willing to say to that we as CP'ers do in fact have an Edmonton Oilers problem. such a nothing trade. Other than maybe Ottawa purging the perpetrators of the Uber incident.

But isn't the fact that it's a nothing trade kinda what makes it worth talking about? Like.... Is this step 1 in chiarelli's 98 step plan to right the mess that he's made?

Nothing says bold like picking up the 6/7 D from the worst defensive team in the NHL.

Does this mean they are going to send one of their Giordano's to the farm team?

Even still though. Going to be about the same result.

Wideman won AHL defenceman of the year in 2015. He's been scratched recently in favor of Christian Jaros and Mark Borowiecki, which tells you where he placed on the Sens depth chart.

ETA a reminder that defence is giving up 40+ shots a game, and he's a healthy scratch in favour of Mark Borowiecki. Drink that in.

Ok, Capfriendly updated, I don't get it, but it shows the Oilers with 50k left in space.

Is Wideman that bad of a player? I didn't think he was all that bad at all.

For a 6th round pick I'd say it's a decent pickup. It's hard to tell who is actually good and bad on the Sens because of that gong show.

Kind of like how when people leave the Oilers they get better.

Though this time someone is going to the Oilers so they are likely screwed.

Didn't even know he was still in the league. Hot pick up by the Oilers.

How does Chiarelli still have a job? Honestly? Trades Seguin and Hall? Pathetic

They probably send down one of Garrison/Gravel.

Plus they can exceed the cap due to Sekera being on LTIR.

I don't know how the formula works exactly but the Flyers were doing the same with Pronger.

The Hawks were able to stock up at the deadline one year as well because Kane broke his collarbone and missed a bunch of time. I thought they won the cup that year but I might be mistaken.
