I agree libraries matter. But for the amount they spent on this one which is located in downtown where you have less children it feels like a waste of money. How many children can take advantage in this library? I wish the city built more libraries in other parts of the city instead of one big one downtown.
Yes, and this way we can preserve the tradition of inner city families paying more tax in order to get less services than the suburbs.
There are houses about 1km from the library that saw over 150 trick or treaters last night. The inner city has seen a massive surge in children as the last generation rotates out.

Which communities are missing a library? There are satellite libraries everywhere.

It's not a branch, it's a central library, which does play a different role in the system. It's meant to be a city-wide draw, with programming that will have city-wide pull. Also, there are lots of children who live within a couple KM of the place. The inner city isn't what it was 20 years ago - it's full of children.

I had the chance to tour the library on Saturday and it is amazing!
The library CEO gave a powerful speech about the library being a weapon to combat wealth inequality. I never thought of it that way, but he is absolutely right. Every one of us can use the library any day. It belongs to all of us. I heard that the craftsmen who built the library were excited because it was the first project that they can show to their families. That is so cool to me.
I'm having a baby next month and I can't wait to bring them to the central library. We will be going every week, even though I live near the Louise Riley branch. The kid's areas are incredibly well designed.

I live outside the downtown core, but my kids and I take the CTrain downtown to the Central library several times a year - two things the kids love, even more so that the train goes through the library. The new place looks great, and I'm excited to ride Transit free on Saturday to take the kids down there.

Why don't you step your ####ing game up and deliver the baby at the library.

I'm excited as this was my account and my company worked on all of the A/V technology in there.
Can't wait to see the auditorium in action!
I am already in the process of booking an event in there for some stuff I'm doing for work. Soooo, you're the guy I call if we can't get the presentation working?

LOL - sure thing!
And I would get you in touch with my service department
I'm know quite a bit of A/V but I am still just a sales guy
Not to doxx myself, but my wife was heavily involved in this project for the last few years. She's thankful it's done and we're excited to be at the ceremony this morning to finally open it up. It's truly an incredible space.
Calgary is lucky that so many competent groups were involved in it's creation.
The hoarding wall is down and it looks stunning:
That facade is decent I guess.
I'm more partial to this style though:
Spoiler!
Some thing about that ketchup and mustard right angle motif against a brown hill just does it for me.
Jokes obviously. The library facade looks excellent, classy and modern.

I can attest that there was about eleventy thousand kids there this morning. Maybe more.
