Ward lets in an awful goal for the loss.

The Toronto announcers are like Gene Principe drooling over McLottery - supplying us with a quote from an opposing player (Patrick Kane) re what he thinks of Auston Matthews. It’s going to be a long season...

Goalies are struggling with the new equipment size for sure.

I hope Lindholm and Ferland both score 30 this year. Heck, with the way teams are scoring this year, they could both hit 40 lol...

Ferland with 4 points in 3 games.

Interested to see if he sustains it.

I could see Ferland score 30, but honestly think that Lindholm racks up a lot more assists than goals this year. I think he is going to open up a tonne of space for Gaudreau and Monahan.

I think high scoring at the start of the season is normal

Scoring was up across the board last season too. Last year there were 10 players with more than 90 points, and more than 20 with 80 or more points.

The year before there was only one player with 90 or more points, and only seven with 80 or more.

The goalie equipment changes obviously have something to do with increased early season scoring but yeah this does seem to happen every year. More penalties are called early on, goalies take a while to get into a rhythm, and many teams are getting used to new players and systems.

I remember Kipper in 2005-06. He gave up 18 goals in his first 4 games and then went on to win the Vezina with a 2.06 GAA.

Michael Ferland with a goal and an assist last night in the ‘Canes 8-5 win last night.

He now has 4 points for the season.

I’m happy he has got off to a great start at his new team. The man is an incredible example to others of how it is possible to overcome adversity.

Umm... by Toronto announcers do you mean Hughson? Because I am a Toronto fan and I hate both Hughson and Simpson. I've had to listen to them for the last three games and after the first period I put them on mute and listened to some music. The game was 100x better.

Also about the quote...Matthews said basically the exact same thing about Kane.

Sparks was really good the first two periods but those last two goals were trash.

Tavares with 3 and Matthews with 2. Hell yeah!

Kadri needs some wingers or he is going to get frustrated. Connor Brown..I'm sorry but you should be on the 4th line.

Kapanen on that line with Matthews was a thing of beauty. Nylander...sign your contract because there ain't no buyout scrub taking your spot now.

On that note Dougie Hamilton has not gotten off to quite as good a start. Middle of the pack in ice time and only one assist through three games. Maybe he misses Gio doing the heavy lifting?

Nobody talked about the Red Wings-Kings game? Kovalchuk played well in his return to the NHL as he gets 2 assists as the Kings beat the Red Wings 4-2. This game didn't have the high octane offense like the other 2 OOT games. The Kings used their backup goalie, Jack Campbell, as Quick is hurt and will miss the next 3 games. Campbell made 36 saves for the win. Bernier was in net for Detroit facing his former team and both of the Red Wings goals were on the PP.

The other 2 games, holy cow, goals galore with 13 scored in both of them. The over/under is usually at 5.5 goals. That was a wild finish in the Leafs-Bhawks game. LOL, the goalies save percentages were around 80%. Surprising that neither coach replaced them. The Bhawks had the pulled the goalie for the extra attacker twice tying it each time. Loved when Kane copied the scoring gesture that Matthews did 33 seconds earlier.

In the Rangers-Hurricanes game, the goalies save percentage was just as bad. Foegle and Williams each had 3 points in Carolina's win.

The "Toronto" announcers are a Canucks and Oilers fan.
