This is weird for me to say, but I think we shouldn't panic if the Flames lose tonight or Saturday. This team for whatever reason just doesn't show up for game 1. The last time they won a season opener, they started the season 4-0 and missed the playoffs anyway.
Whether or not this is a good team, it won't be decided tonight.

I am very excited with our starting lineup. IMO this is the best starting lineup since 1989. I am a bit concerned with Smith, but I think he will pleasantly surprise us. Go Flames go.

I hate to say it, but it's pretty much must win scenario.
They start the season with the league doormats - on the road, where there is less pressure - then get them again at home before embarking on a very tough stretch of games.
Minimum 3 points out of the 2 games, but no excuse not to be 4.
Anything less than 3, and it could be a rough October.
But F that - let's be front-runners for a change!

That Vancouver roster looks horrible. They could easily finish 31st.

Normally I would agree - it's just one game. But this team needs a culture change. No more with the constant stream of excuses, time to start getting it done.

Yay, just win please. 8 year drought is ridiculous.
Wonder who they put on Horvat and Boeser? Literally the only thing that looks like a threat.

Question for the international fans...
How can I watch games while in Europe? I have a CenterIce account through Directv in the US, can I access that? And if so (sorry - really stupid question), how?
Thanks in advance

When I lived in Europe I had to use a VPN.

Okay - again, sorry for the full-on luddite display here - I have a vpn to log into my work network. If I use that, would I then be 'accessing from Canada'? And then I can stream as if I am at home?

It really feels like a new era of Flames hockey. We're going to win this one in convincing fashion. Flames win this one by 3 or 4 and they get goals from Backlund, Monahan and Dube.

Depends. Work VPNs often don't create an "all traffic" VPN like the paid service ones, rather they reroute specific port traffic (used by your work-specific programs that need access to a gated network) and leave the rest untouched.
If it's re-routing all browser traffic (unlikely) then it should work. If it's only re-routing work applications/folder access, then it won't.

This game may come down to Smith vs Markstrom. Early season games are unpredictable and often the team with the hot goalie wins.
Unless your coach decides to dress Grossman, Jokipaka and Wideman. That changes everything.

Just win baby. really hoping to see the flames come out flying in the first and get a couple. put the game away right from the get go, then if smith sucks it won't kill us.
Every game is as important as every other, don't let the easy ones slip away.
Flames need to watch out for elias petersson, he looks like an absolute stud out there, but plays zero defense.

While this is very true, losing these games would put them behind the 8-ball to open the season. We have been waiting a few years now for this team to take the next step in their progression and coming out of the gates slow once again to me is not a good sign.
