Plus with Lazar waived they can send him down without risk and recall Mangiapane at any time in the next 30 days (think it's 30 days)

Yeah, it makes sense to send Mangiapane down and make him the first call-up when inevitable injuries happen. Lazar would be best served going down to see if he can find something in his game at the AHL level, but it looks like they're content having being the 13th forward.

On D, if they carry 7, I wonder if Valimaki has the upper hand being paired with Stone as LD. Maybe Andersson swaps in on RD every once in a while?

Does Glenn Campbell have some information that Dube has made the opening day roster?

I don't think it's that silly of a suggestion. 13th or 14th forwards don't sit for 82 games. I imagine some teams like the internal competition and ability for players to practice the system with the big club. Just rotate through the bottom of your order with each playing around 60 games. If one is really playing lights out, then you can re-evaluate and send someone down if they start sitting.

The Flames have a lot of balance in their roaster. That Dube-Ryan-Neal line is going to be sneaky good.

One of those 4 needs to be cut for the Flames to have a 23 man roster. (Barring a trade of some sort)
I think that last line in brackets is key. I don't necessarily think that the Flames are evaluating these players right down to the last practice. I think BT is working the phones last minute and seeing if he can't unload a guy for some picks. Young guys in both D and F impressed more than expected this camp, and instead of being disappointed like last season and needing a last-minute addition in Jagr, he probably has been pleasantly surprised and is looking for ways to make space.

Ultimately, if no trade materializes, Valimaki seems like the logical selection, especially with the current 8 D still on the team.

Based on lines and assuming those missing from practice are demoted, it looks like Andersson is the final cut.

edit: barring trade.
of course they could do Lazar too.

To confirm, Hathaway and Prout can't be the final cut as they would have needed to be on waivers?

^Sorry, posted that last comment before seeing the lineup. I suppose now Andersson might be the odd one out

I am not suggesting what I am saying will definitely work. However, unless you can provide a study on why the status quo is the best alternative, then no, you have no credentials to call my suggestion silly bud. You see new methods always being tried in sports.

So this "new method" is to suggest that not playing regularly is better for development of a very young player, than playing every game on Stocktons schedule?

That's absurd and you dont need case studies to know that.

Practicing against Brodie and Gio and whoever else is fine and all, but nothing replaces learning...like doing.

One thing that I really wanted to see was Neal and Frolik swapped. Frolik is a great, calming influence, but is on a line that does not need what he brings. I think that Neal would be a good role model for Tkachuk and bring the "International Backlund" into the mix.

Also, it sure looked like Tkachuk and Czarnik had some decent chemistry at times during this preseason.

And oddly enough we never saw that in the preseason.

The problem though, at least in this case, is that Mangiapane is a top 2 line F. Who does he displace to the press box when he comes into a game?

Unless you believe he would learn better playing 4th line minutes...which i think most would agree isnt exactly playing to his strengths.
