Needless to say, if WestJet goes 8 abreast in Y they immediately take a huge cost hit against 95% of the other 787's in the sky that are 9 across.

Not a fan of the new livery but maybe it will grow on me. The 'Westjet' part of it looks awkward and doesn't fit well on the fuselage.

Early 2019 means they will be beginning to train crews soon (summer??) - right in the middle of the trans Atlantic high season when the guys are all busy on the 767. I'll have to ask my buddy if he's heard anything about timing.

767 summer utilization is basically flat vs winter, when there was more Hawaii flying. Hearing a very rough "second half of January" for the first frame.

Spirit of Canada?

Kind of a rip off of Qantas, no?

What routes are we expecting for this aircraft? the video shows Calgary-London (which is great as I am going to be doing this trip likely next summer), but are there others announced from YYC?

Dreamliner routes haven't been released yet. Many folks are speculating it will be Asian (China) routes.

Gatwick is a given. Be it from here, or YYZ. YYC-LGW is flight #1 for a reason, they see that as the flagship and there's no way a 789 won't be on it.

The fuscia(?) colour reminds me of the bright Zip jets that graced our skies on the 737-200's for a few years.

I do like the naming of the jets, I'm guessing they will start with the different cities they are serving.

However, #hamilton probably isn't the best for social tracking; I'm guessing that hashtag is full of Lin-Manuel Miranda mentions...

This appears to be the best of the #Hamilton offerings.

Reports coming in on Twitter of an airliner crash at the Havana airport.

Cuban media now reporting it was a 737-400 operated by Blue Panorama. Most likely operating on behalf of Cubana.

Main hashtag on Twitter for Hamilton is generally #HamOnt, but that doesn't make a great name for an airplane.

Pretty stupid to even make it a hashtag in the first place.

Not Blue Panorama. It’s a Mexican registered 737-200.

The Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transportation is confirming the aircraft involved in the crash to be XA-UHZ, a 38 year old 737-200. We did not receive any data from this flight.

Wow, I am sure he touched down at least half way down the runway! He was covered in a ball of brake smoke by the time he reached the end.
Lol, probably not the only thing he was covered in then.

Unique visitors to YYC yesterday, a Corsair 747-400 and Air X A340-300. They both flew in from Anchorage and will spend 5 days here. Both are being used as a travel charter, most likely one of those “around the world” trips. Apparently the A340 is configured with 100 first class pods. The 747 is apparently all economy. Video of the 747 arrival:

Last weekend (Sat/Sun) there was a little jet doing some impressive acrobatic manoeuvres up in the Ghost River area. I think it was probably a 2-seat jet trainer--and it looked to have straight wings--but I couldn't identify the model.

Does anybody know who might have been operating that? Do any of the air training centres around here do jets like that?
