I think they actually bent over forwards, not backwards.

He may be the Rangers #1 d-man, but he is not an actual #1 or #2 d-man.

This deal is no good.
Ya but the market for #1 or #2 d-men is $6-7M now, so this isn't too far off for a 24 year old dman, who's already a good #3 with upside.

Rangers fans seem to be happy with it

I think it's a good deal for a young top pairing defenseman that plays in all situations.

Hanifin should be coming in a little under this amount, although I have a feeling we are going to overpay him a little.

He's only the Rangers top d-man.

He's not a real #1 or 2 d-man and I don't think he ever will be. This is a huge risk for a guy with barely more than 2 years of NHL service that hasn't proven that much yet.

This is $1-$1.5M per year too much for a guy of where he's at right now. Brady Skjei is decent but he's not THIS sort of AAV good and doesn't deserve this much money.

Its #2/3 money. Seems fair. Not every team has a wizard.

The contract seems high now but hes at least a 4 million dollar player now. Given that its 6 years and the cap can go up the contract is likely fair or a bargain if he continues to improve.
