That interview was on Charles Adler, I believe.

Didn’t he institute that “Forever a Flame” garbage. I wish at the next STH session, somebody would call the Flames’ management out on that policy. Just retire jerseys like every other team I the league.

He was already on the clock when Forever a Flame was instituted. I don't know whose idea it was, but King would likely have had input.

The Flames are not the first team to honor numbers over retiring them though. Either the Leafs or Canadiens (or maybe both?) started doing so. Such history on both of those franchises, many players to retire. Soon there won't be enough numbers, so at least one of them chose to only honor numbers going forward. The Flames decided to follow. I'm not sure if any other team does the same, but it certainly is not many teams who choose to honor over retire.

The Leafs stopped retiring numbers for decades, but then they reversed course a couple of years ago and ended up retired a whole whack at one time.
