Do you guys have any thoughts on a reliable source to determine fair market values of used vehicles? I find Kijiji listings to be all over the map. I've been browsing the VMR site, but not sure if they have enough data points to support their number.

^ autotrader tells you where your vehicle is priced in their pricing spectrum which i assume is based on similar vehicles that are for sale on their website.

Yeah, I found that it's just easier to do a trade-in if you are buying from a dealership. You may leave money on the table, but less hassle (no low-ballers, no scammers, no worrying when the vehicle will sell, no dealing with people test driving).

Sure it's easier but you are leaving money on the table. I was offered $5k less from the dealer for my 2016 Golf R than I sold it for privately. I'm willing to deal with low ballers and a bit of hassle for that kind of money.

I've found you can post your car easily 3-5k more than you get offered in a trade and can still be priced low enough it moves fast.

If I was loaded, I'd do the trade. For the hassle, $3-5k is still well worth it for me. I don't have the patience to squeeze the extra $1K out of the sale I probably could.
