If bad smells is such a big deal they should have a mandatory deodorant check point.

Which might actually lead to some human rights issues for those with a valid prescription for marijuana. That’s an entirely different topic in itself, but as of right now people do have a legal prescription, denying them the ability to ‘medicate’ might be a hard sell.

And THC vapes eliminate the pungent odor of weed. Or majority.

Probably not. You don't have a right to enter private property.

Not to mention, there are more ways to take your scrip than just lighting up a fatty.

People still smoke weed? It's either edibles, or odorless vape these days.

Yeah, if anything lighting up at a concert seems like the least convenient or effective method.

Memories of smoking cigarettes inside the Saddledome during concerts. Nobody batted an eye.

You will now get to experience people smoking in the washroom like other arenas.

Convenient and effective pale in comparison to thinking you're the coolest person in the building. We get it, you bought some weed and are smoking it illegally, ooooooooooohhhhh.

Yeah, about that. It isn't odorless.

Ron Howard Narrator Voice: Actually, everyone that wasn't smoking hated it.

Given that you didn't have to scan out or go through security again on the way in after smoking, I totally get this move. It would have been so easy to jump the fence, which poses a problem for non paying fans but also for potential security issues.

What i don't get is the no re-entry policy. Why not leave security with a couple of metal detectors at the main entrance all game and allow people to come and go as long as they scan in/out each time?

I've never understood the basis of this "security" feature of no re-entry. They don't want people drinking outside to avoid paying $10 a beer? That one doesn't make much sense unless they think people are stashing their liquor in the bushes. As long as you re-clear security, what's the risk? Giving your ticket to a friend after 1 period and letting him watch the 2nd? Who gives a crap.

Re-entry also isn't non existent in NA, just not common at big arenas. The Jube still allows re-entry as long as you scan out and in again. I was also just in Vegas for a show at the Joint at HRH and they allowed re-entry as long as you re-cleared security.

So, no more pee breaks outside in the back when the lineups are a mile long. Damn.

I don't think cannabis legalization has anything to do with this. Most arenas have had no-entry policies since long before legalization came about.

Honestly, you go through security to get in, and again when you come back from the smoke pit. I fail to see why it’s such a safety threat to provided an area for some smokers.
I'm sure it is very costly for the Flames to have to keep security personnel around all night to accommodate smokers.

In retrospect this is true and fairly obvious. But for 20-year old me at an Aerosmith concert it didn't cross my mind.

If legislation/regulation require people to be able to have access to their medication and not be denied entry to public establishments just because they need said medication, then that will be the way it is. I guess kind of like wheel-chair ramps.

Should be interesting times.

I think if it was the case, it would have more to do with the smoking areas no longer being around the dome. I would also guess that it might be their way to prevent younger fans from smelling or being exposed to marijuana.

Or.. it is just to become more adherent to Calgary smoking bylaws

They don't. They leave 1 person at the door to make sure no alcohol goes outside.

What do the security who are there from the beginning of the game do? Are they only working from doors open to end of 1st period? What's the cutoff time to get in?

I would assume most of the security staff are around and it wouldn't take much to have a couple security scan people out and in like they do normally.
