Van Riemsdyk has hands of gold. Especially down low he can raise the puck with little snap in the wrist. It was his bread and butter especially on the PP. Philly will definitely have a use for him. Dollar value on an annual basis, it's probably about right, but that term is ridiculous. He's already a little on the slower side. His contract after 2 years will be one they'll be stuck with for another 3. Too long of term. Hope Treliving stays clear of long term deals this summer.

JVR had an offer from SJ for 3 years * $6.85M. He really wanted to take it, but didn’t want to wait for the Tavares deal to settle out. If Tavares signs then SJ doesn’t have money for him and he misses out on Philly money. He was in contact with SJ until around 2pm. SJ is shocked that he got the extra 2 years. They don’t blame him for taking the extra $14.5M.

not sure why SJS would be shocked about a 5 year term?

Frankly, i'd be shocked if JVR, who is only 29 and just scored 36 goals last year, signed a 3 year deal with anyone unless it was for McDavid AAV...

How does he miss out on Philly money? There’s a history and a fit there and am sure the Flyers could wait an extra hour or so tomorrow AM to have the Tavares thing settle out and then offer JVR a deal...as I don’t think Philly is scrambling to take the first available forward at 10am.

Where's The Dink to investigate when you need him?

JVR was going to sign for 2 years less AND a lower AAV just to go to San Jose?!

Holy F-ing crap do I hate the Sharks. Like, if that's true, what in the actual ####?

It's free agency. You don't offer term, you don't get the player.

Puts him at 35 when this contract is up.

Good signing for Philly but they need to have an answer in net if they want this to mean anything.

The Flyers seem like they should be an amazing team with a powerful forward core and young talented D coming up.
