Time to move on, his best years were with the Hawks.

I think a lot needs to happen for Steeger to come back to Calgary. I'd take a flyer on him.
One or more of the following needs to happen either Brouwer is bought out/ Foo, Eatbread, Hathaway don't impress at camp / BT stikes out on UFA signings this summer.

One thing I will always appreciate from Versteeg - he gave it his all in that playoff series against Anaheim and really stood out.

When the price of other desirable UFAs gets out of hand, have to wonder if Tre circles back...especially given the relative shortage availability of players that potentially fit here, could be sooner than later, but yes, maybe this ship has sailed...

I am 100% okay with not bringing Versteeg back.

Just a complete no on this move. Guy is not a positive contributor on a team with playoff aspirations. He'll be hurt much of the year and struggle to do much of anything on a fourth line.

injuries are a bit of a concern, but versteeg was a decent player in 2016-2017 (69gp, 15g 22 a).... just uncertain of what condition he is in after hip surgery.... he did help on the pp... or at least it appears that the pp tailspin coincided with his injury...
i would be okay if he came back on a 1x1....

I would rather give his spot to Foo or someone else within the system. He won't carry a team or even a line, see what the team has in it's own prospects at this point. I can see him going to the oil

Good.
Nothing against him, he was a very useful addition for the last couple years. But it's time to move on IMO

offer him a PTO
Side question, is there a limit on the number of PTO's a club can have in camp?

I really like the swagger he brings and I'm not sure who else other than Tkachuk can now bring that on the team.

Swagger with serious declining hockey talent and especially big-time declining health means jack squat.

I don't think Versteeg's talent is declining. I just think he's slow.

No, they are both declining. Though his footspeed is declining somewhat faster.

I kind of dislike the quasi word "swagger", but it fits in this instance.
It is hard not to like Steeg when he is doing mock interviews with his teammates and singing out "leetle brother Dougie.... scores!"
If Tre decides to sign him, I would not hate it.

Definitely time to move on from Versteeg. I did like Versteeg when he was healthy & younger, but time to give some of the young guys a chance like Mangiapane and Dube. Tre will bring in a couple of older veterans tomorrow, so we need to leave at least one spot for the young guys to shoot for.

Versteeg has some good years left to ply in an European league. I wish him well.

He tried that already, can't seem to get insured over there.
