Hathaway is an interesting one, I could see them walking away. I'd renew his current deal but that's about it. If he goes to arbitration for anything over 800k, no thanks.

Especially since they just traded Ferland.

Not even that he's horrible I like him as a 4th line grinder but don't see room for him

He had such a poor effort level and physical game last year, that I have no interest in seeing him in a Flames uniform again. One of the bigger problems last year is that the Flames bottom 6 was pretty much dog poop. Guys like Hathaway are the problem, he went from the guy that looked like he was hungry to over come his limited talent, to a guy that was satisfied with where he got to.

I definite think they qualify Hathaway.

The former first rounders are the interesting ones to me.

Klimchuk - yes
Poirier, Shinkaruk - maybe no to both

His play last year bought nothing to the table, if we're going to improve the bottom 6, Hathaway is not the answer there.

In this day and age you need depth that can contribute on the score sheet, not just the PIM sheet.

I like him as a crash and bang winger, I just don't think the Flames need a crash and bang winger that can't really contribute anywhere else

They should keep Hathaway but he should be in the AHL mostly. Otherwise the Flames didn't add enough and/or have enough young forwards make the jump.

Hathaway is a great 13th/14th guy IMO. Sub him in for energy and hitting every few games.

My guesses:

For sure: Kulak, Hanifin, Jankowski, Lindholm, Shore, Rittich, Gillies

70/30: Hathaway, Klimchuk

60/40: Shinkaruk

50/50: Poirier

Doubtful: Smith, Carroll

I think Shinkaruk is doubtful, and I think Porier is likely to be resigned. I think they will give him 1 more year knowing that he "missed" some development time.

I agree with this sentiment. In the STH event I attended, Treliving hinted at Shinkaruk probably not coming back. Poirier seemed to have a more positive response, due to the strides he has made personally.

In 59 GP Hathaway had 154 hits, which was second only to Ferlands 171.

Equates to 2.6 hits a game. Which would rank him 25th in the entire NHL for hits a game for players that played at least 50 games.

His average ice time was only 11:32 a game, which ranks 22nd on the Flames.

You certainly don't launch a guy like that into the sun. He will be qualified.

Hits is a pretty on and off stat, just watching him play he's not an NHL player, he's not a bang and crash guy, I don't know what he is, but if the Flames want to improve their bottom 6, I don't think he's worth a contract.

Hmmmm.

I think he is the definition what a crash and bang player is.

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Gregory Balloch @GregBalloch

Wow, Ken Appleby has been non-tendered by the #NJDevils and is now an unrestricted free agent. 23 year old goalie who can step in at the NHL level almost right away.

CapitalsPR @CapitalsPR

#Caps extend qualifying offers to Tom Wilson, Madison Bowey, Travis Boyd, Liam O’Brien, and Riley Barber. #Caps do not extend qualifying offer to Devante Smith-Pelly, but are still negotiating with him.

Wow surprised about Shore not getting a QO. Maybe they are still intending to sign him before free agency.

Expected Poirier to be qualified and Shinkaruk to be let go.

Poirier just didn't do much in the AHL. Shinkaruk at least had 17 goals.
