You, and I, literally have no idea what he was suffering with. I've met you before - you've been dealt a really bad hand in life, and you are courageous and strong for the way you have to live, but your physical limitations do not give you the right to be critical of what others may be dealing with, either physical or mental.

The fact that outwardly he was showing no signs of suffering and he chose to take his own life proves to us the degree to which mental illness can destroy lives.

From the outside he would seem to have the perfect life, but we will never know the demons he was battling.
So much talent. Always loved his shows, all the way back to "No Reservations", simple, honest, no bull#### kinda guy.
He will be missed, and may God have mercy on his soul.

Read most of his books and really enjoyed his shows.

Was very talented at what he did, and brought a great deal of passion and insight to it too.

Mental illness is not always recognizable, shame on those who think that he 'looked ok'. It's a damn shame that he couldn't have gotten the help he obviously needed in time.

RIP

Well I agree that mental illness plays a role a lot of the time but not always by default, some eople just give up.
I was saddened to see the news and then I clicked on it and read it was suicide and it pissed me off.

I worked in restaurants so I related to Kitchen Confidential when I read it. His travel shows were interesting and educational.

There have been so many people taking their lives lately, prominent or otherwise. The rate of suicide has increased so much in the last 20 years.

https://www.livescience.com/62764-us...-increase.html

Something is going on. I don’t know if it’s social media, the food we eat or the political climate but it’s dushearteneing, especially for someone with depression.

I want to attack F_G for what he’s saying but I think he needs help. Maybe the though that suicide is cowardly is the only thing keeping him from doing it. Please respect that this isn’t true and taking care of your mental health isn’t something to mock.

Not sure there was anybody cooler than Anthony Bourdain. Really unfortunate to hear this news.

Did you ever stop to consider that perhaps victims of suicide are fully aware of how it will affect their loved ones, but the pain they deal with is so intense, and the way depression clouds *every single* aspect of life, pushes them toward the only solution they can see, sometimes even despite professional help and medication?

Shame on you for for your condemnation and ignorance. You know nothing about this man. Shame on you.

If you’ve never had suicidal thoughts, you likely wouldn’t understand, but “weakness” and “giving up” have nothing to do with it. You’re applying logic to a feeling and thoughts that have little basis in logic.

Your view on suicide is based on ignorance, nothing more.
