Couldn't you file a police report or notify the police in the town?

We caught someone trying to register a satellite phone that was stolen from us and the police were quite happy to pay him a visit to have it returned.

I tried to notify the RCMP here, but they weren't interested, as it would be too difficult to prove anything. Looking back on it, I probably should have notified the police in Quebec too though. The RCMP detachment in Quebec would have probably been more interested, and there's a good chance the people would have been known to police already. So the RCMP may have wanted an excuse to knock on their door.

I was out $80, so it wasn't the end of the world, but irritating nonetheless.

I’ve only had one “item not as described” claim and I won that dispute. The person bought some sunglasses off me, received them, had them for over 6 weeks, then tried to say they were “not as expected”. Total BS.

I wasn’t out any cash but it was actually enough for me to stop bothering with eBay. Kijiji is fine and none of the fees and shipping hassles.

As a seller, I would use Kijiji for most items(even cars and real estate rentals) with the possible exception of Collectables and Art. Also, EBAY is not the only auction site for those that choose to use the online auction medium.

The specialty items like that(rare toys, cards, etc... and art) generally do not have enough local buyers to generate serious buyer traffic.
