It's been erupting since 1983 so not sure why this different eruption site changes things (assuming it's not undergoing steam explosion at the time). This type of thing could happen with this volcano on the Hilo side at any moment. Maybe Mauna Loa decides to wake up to make things really exciting. Over the past 300 years it has averaged an eruption every 6 years and erupted 39 times from 1839 to 1984. 1984 was the last eruption. It's the largest sub-aerial volcano in the world.
Note I don't believe there is any activity with Mauna Loa that would suggest it's waking up.
Note to my note: They are actually worried of a Mount Loa eruption as it has also been active of late. Not considered imminent though neither were a bunch of new vents forming for kiluaea thought to be imminent.
