AV may just end up coaching Carolina lol. Crazy that the Stars would reach a little bit with the roster they have. But hey if it works it works. I thought for sure AV was a lock for that job, but Jim Nill says nope!

One would have to think Nill won't survive if this hire doesn't work out.

Hard to believe he was able to take over the Stars and add Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza, two elite centers, right away for mostly a collection of stiffs but hasn't been able to keep that momentum going.

Of course Spezza fell hard this year, but was a 50-60+ point center for the 1st three seasons in Dallas.

Under Ruff they were close but the goaltending situation was a mess. I suppose he finally fixed that with Bishop but he's on his 3rd coach now and if Montgomery doesn't work out they have kind of wasted the prime years of Seguin and Benn.

The Stars have same problems as the Flames. Their drafting is not great so they have a weak supporting case for their stars, and they've had trouble finding a bonafide #1 goalie. Like the Flames, they also let the core of their last good team age into value-less assets so they didn't get any kind of boost in their rebuild.

I think you are under-estimating this fact. There is an old saying (for very good reason) "you show me a good coach and I will show you a good goalie"

I think he is overrated aswell. His Nucks were extremely powerful, with Rags, he had Lundquist in his prime. But as you said, he never pulled it of.

Ben Bishop was very good for them, I don't understand this statement. They were ultimately done in by their not-so-good depth players and playing in an incredibly tough division.

Their top end is as good as any in the league and it wouldn't surprise me to see Dallas bounce back next year under a new coaching staff. The Flames have a lot more work to do in building the top half of their roster, particularly at forward.
