In the end, I am just not that convinced that the distribution of letters is all that critical to team success.

Despite the fact that the GM basically just called this team out on its.....fortitude?
These guys played soft all year and they got called out for it. Tkachuk seems like the player who has the required attitude.
Perhaps more people should follow suit.

Does this have anything to do with promoting Tkachuk to team captain?

I don't disagree. I just wonder about the effect of making him a Captain or the Alternate, and I don't think it is all that meaningful.

Wouldnt it be best if GG got fired as early as possible so he is available to be hired by one of the other teams that will be looking for a coach?

Most teams don't rush out and hire their guy after the last game of the season. Of the 31 head coaches from this past season, only four were hired in April: two of these were promotions from the minor-league affiliate, and one was the first coach of an expansion team.

I think any coach would want to know where they stood with an organization as soon as possible so they could make whatever arrangements they needed to for their future. If a guy is held on to for too long and then gets fired a month or so after other teams have made major changes they could be left out in the cold so far as job opportunities.

Well it was Smith's play after the injury that cost us. It was great that his 2 best games were against the Oilers but by then our playoff chances were doomed.

I think it was a team effort. There was too many games where they got shutout or only scored a goal.

So much for the "Backlund may be playing injured" talk. Not sure what Smith was getting at with his "save the world" comment. Just seems like an odd thing so say.

Smith is saying he tried to do too much and wanted to be the guy to do it all. Or to be simple, he overthought things.
