Definitely. Goalies are hard to develop at the best of times, I just think Gillies’ time would be best spent at the NHL level learning from a similarly sized veteran like Mike Smith.

Have Rittich back-up Parsons in the AHL.

That’s my ideal situation next season if we’re staying the course with our current group of goalies.

...now if we were to sign Antti Raanta on July 1st, which would be cool, I’d happily see that strategy change.

Connor Hellebuyck is certainly rewarding the Jets’ patience at the NHL level. Time for the Flames to stop wasting time with crap vets, and put some pressure on their NHL coaches to help develop NHL players.

Calgary has done with Gillies almost exactly what Winnipeg did with Hellebuyck.

Gillies is in his Draft +6 season, has 82 AHL games and 9 NHL games of experience. This is after losing almost his entire Draft +4 season (only 7 AHL games played).

After his Draft + 6 season, Hellebuyck had 88 AHL games and 26 NHL games of experience.

It's pretty clear that, had Gillies not lost an entire year to injury, he would certainly have more AHL experience and likely more NHL experience than Hellebuyck at the same point in his career.

I had a similar thought. All the contact is leg to leg, but not truly “mean” or dirty. Just idiotic. I’ve really disliked Frolik this season. His game has fallen off a cliff, and he can easily be lumped into the group of veterans that have failed this team.
