I think it's clear that Smith is at the point in his career that he can't handle playing the majority of the games. He needs to play less next year with more time given to whoever is the backup.

If Treliving doesn't fire the coaching staff either now or at seasons end, then he needs to be fired. Once the coaching staff is gone, either Treliving or his replacement needs to find a coaching staff that is going to implement a system that actually suits the Flames core. I am tired of looking at Gulickson staring down at a iPad while the Flames are falling apart.

I'm cool if they call up most of Stockton or even Kansas City at this point. Give some of our prospects some NHL experience.

In general without ripping onthe coach, it’s been consistency of all 5 facets of the game.
Every game all season you can point to one of the following things being terrible with the exception of the Nashville game and one of the Washington games where everything clicked.
Defending, attacking, PP, PK, goaltending
Many nights we’ve had 4/5 being pretty good and one being miserable and it’s been our undoing. I don’t know about the stats or analytics but this is what my eyes have told me.
And if we’re only average on a few of them instead of pretty good then we get into big trouble.

You can't deplete your farm teams, especially Stockton that if fighting for a playoff spot.

I’ve never felt this disillusioned as a fan before. Between the terrible hockey and the arena disaster I’m beginning to question if being a fan of this team is even worth it anymore.
This is without a doubt the absolute worst season in franchise history. Worse than the young guns.

Every year when we're out of playoff contention and have our 1st round pick we always win games.
The one year we don't have our 1st going into the draft we can't score a goal to save our lives.
Such a classic thing to happen to this organization

Only one call up left. Since stockton plays back to back on the 6th and 7th. I doubt we get a bunch of call ups to close out the season.

You also can't do it because it's not allowed by the NHL

Liked Bennett's jam tonight. Did not like him taking 3 penalties.
Smith looked like he wanted to skate it up the ice a few times. I don't blame him, not much help there otherwise.

Well, at least things are starting to align for the Flames.
Today's loss was sustainable.
My only gripe (everything else this game went 'as expected', so no use in going over anything here) for this game was the fact that Smith started. I say shut him down for the rest of the season. Throw Gillies out there and see what he can do for a second prolonged stint up in the NHL. Smith just came back from an injury - the Flames are not playing for a damn thing. Shut him down and make sure he doesn't re-aggravate anything.

So much has gone so wrong on so many levels there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully another home run with a 4th rounder.

Bennett has played more minutes than Brouwer over that timeframe.

Jesus Christ man... while I am a Bennett fan and think the organization would be screwing up royally by selling low on him given our organizational luck doing that (savard, St. Louis, Byron, bearcheese, etc) I find your argument that he was the reason for this loss a little ridiculous... two of those calls were ticky tacky and the other one was just a product of finishing checks and Pearson being a bitch and turning. But I’ll concede, he has to be better and more disciplined but your boy ferkland was nowhere to be seen tonight except for turning the puck over constantly. At least Bennett is playing with some heart and getting his nose dirty which is more than 75% of this line up can say.

Bummer. Hard to watch when your team can’t score goals. Effort was there, the Kings will go home with some bumps & bruises, but the Flames needed to pot a few to get the Kings to take them seriously as the game went on. Tonight would have been nice to have an unsung hero surface, someone like Shore, Andersson, Lazar, Kulak, or hell maybe Stewart or Stajan could dig deep for an end of career highlight night. Sadly this team all looks defeated. I don’t understand why GG is still behind the bench.

I admit to not being aware of the call-up rules beforehand. Also oblivious to any playoff races in the AHL or ECHL. My bad!
