Surprised to see some have Ferland & Bennett as 'keep'. The Flames only need one third line RW.

Trade Ferland as part of a package to get a legitimate 1st RW

Rest assured. Sam has none whatsoever.

Tre needs to land a big name RW via free agency or this team is still going to be stuck in neutral next season. Injecting a JVR/Kane or even Neal would do wonders to re-adjusting the teams depth on that side. Putting Frolik and Ferland in lesser roles where they can over-perform is the key to this team improving imo.

Complete misevaluation.
I agree with this and I feel the same way about Bennett and Brodie.

Brodie has had bad years under GG, change the coach and hope he gets back to his old self.

Bennett is still young and on a good contract, selling low is bad asset management.

I'm not so sure a #1 rw is the biggest hole to fill. Gaudreau and Monahan had career years with Ferland there. Injecting high quality offensive players beyond the top line is my biggest concern.

Let the UFAs walk, buyout Brouwer and look at obtaining the following:

- 1L RW, 3L RW (sadly going to have to move a D+ for this)
- Vet backup (Rittich has been alright, but look what happened when Smith was out long term)

That is the point...it all filters down.

Top line RW is #1 IMO

Really interesting that there is a consensus that the team lacks critical mass of good players and few that would bring back a good player in a trade and there are very few prospects that are going to be NHL ready and the Flames are skipping the draft this year and Burke and Treliving are not being fired some time this week.

PS The group of players that were supposed to provide critical mass have all been signed for the next 2 years and would either bring back another teams contract mistake or have the Flames retaining contract.

PPS the goalie situation is a tire fire. Smith is the in the bottom 5 home goalies in the league. GA 2.98 sv % .901 Arz evaluated him and were willing to pay 3M for him to play elsewhere. Now there is Riitch and Gillies who will have to play 30-50 mediocre games next year to get their NHL legs if they indeed have the talent and work ethic to be a top-10 NHL starter. ie it was a wasted year for goalie development.

PPPS They just extended the worst shut down centre in the League (-16) for 6 years at 32M somehow hoping he gets better as he gets older. They did this rather than get a late 1st round pick for him 10 games ago.

See that means that pushing Ferland down solves the depth scoring issues. I simply don't think Ferland suddenly boosts the scoring on the 2nd or 3rd lines.

Top line scoring not the problem in my opinion. It's real scoring threats beyond the top line.

I think no matter who you put with Johnny and Mony, they will score close to 20 goals. Ferland isn't a first line player

Fire the entire coaching staff and hire a competent veteran head coach. Let him chose his assistants. Keep the core as is for the most part, shuffle some pieces to get us more scoring. Give them two years. If that doesn't work, burn it to the ground. Fire Treliving, fire Burke, fire the coaching staff and commence rebuild V2.0. For God's sake though, don't go picking at the scrap heap from failed organizations for our management/coaching staff.
We have the old Leafs GM as our President of Hockey Operations
The old coyotes Assistant GM as our GM
The old coyotes GM doing god know what
The old Canucks assistant coach as our head coach.
And we wonder why this team sucks

I trade shore, as he's an RFA, and has proven to be a useful bottom 6 NHL'er, capable of 15ish points a season. but we've got Monahan, Backlund, Janko as our top 3 centers, with the likes of Dube, Phillips (doubt he plays C in the NHL with his size), and Shinkaruk who I'd rather see in a more offensive 4th line role, seeing as the 4th lines aren't plug lines anymore. Maybe we recoup that 7th round pick. If none of the kids can take the step next season, filling a 4th line C role isn't hard in Free Agency.

Kulak is due for a decent raise, so you have to move one of Brodie or Stone. I'd prefer to move Stone if the coaching staff changes, as Brodie can provide more when utilized properly. However, if you get a good offer for Brodie, you move him for a better return than Stone would fetch. Andersson is ready, Kylington should get a good hard look as well. If they need to sign a 6/7, can be done for cheap in Free Agency.

Gio-Hamilton
Brodie-Andersson
Hamonic-kulak
