The Flames do not have a goalie issue. All three goalies currently with the club are fine. There big holes in the first and third forward lines and Treliving needs to address that rather than concentrate on building from the back outwards. Even the goalies from previous years would have been fine if the Flames had more offensive threat. Last night's defeat by the Rangers weren't even the goalie's fault as Gilles played quite well. It was just a few bad line changes and some defensive lapses.

Last night wasn't Gillies fault...he was the 2nd best goalie on the ice and got pretty damn lucky though.

Rittich has not been "fine" since Smith went down though unless you like .800 goal tending

As i said, the stats doesn't matter at this point. Are you seriously throwing in Gillies 92% or whatever after 4 starts? Four? Rittich was what, 3-0-1 after 4 starts? And look at his numbers now. It doesn't really mean anything. Put in Gillies against Boston, Tampa, Vegas, Nashville.... And he can be 88% goalie after 8 starts. Like really guys. Thing is, he has the tools, he is giant, athletic, flexible and humble guy. I really like him. But the Rangers game for example. The 1st goal is game changer. Absolute stinker which undermine team morale. Yes, team should not be so down after 1 goal, but hey, our veteran leadership and coaching staff... The guy who cares the most is 20.

Since Smith went down the goaltending has been at a .833 average. Neither one is giving us what we need to earn a playoff spot.

The question is, do the Flames panic and bring a proven backup in for next year? Or finally let a young guy run with it?

This team was a bubble team with Smith playing out of his mind. There's deeper issues than our two rookie goaltenders. I for one am happy we didn't waste any more assets on a hope and prayer.

Not sure I’d call signing an NHL caliber backup panicking.
